HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2014-050 - General Municipal Election RESOLUTION NO. 2014-050 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SHASTA CONSOLIDATE A GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2014 WHEREAS, pursuant to Redding Municipal Code Section 2.17.010, the City of Redding's General Municipal Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the General Municipal Election be consolidated with the Statewide General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, and that within the City, that precincts, polling places, and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the Shasta County Election Department canvass the returns of the General Municipal Election, and that the Election be held in all respects as if there were only one election. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE,AND ORDER,AS FOLLOWS: 1. Pursuant to the requirements of Elections Code Section 10403: (a) The Board of Supervisors of the County of Shasta is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a Municipal General Election with the Statewide General Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. (b) The Offices to be voted upon at the Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, are as follows: - Three open seats of the City of Redding City Council, which positions are for a four-year term. - City Clerk, which position is for a four-year term. - Any ballot measure which may be approved by the date as set forth in Elections Code Section 10403. (c) The consolidated election will be held and conducted in a manner prescribed in Elections Code Section 10418. 2. The County Election Department is authorized to canvass the returns of the Municipal General Election. The Election shall be held in all respects as if _l there was only one election and only one form of ballot shall be used. N 1 3. The Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Election Department to take any and all steps necessary for holding the consolidated election. 'C1 Q N O 1► 0 4. The City recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation, and agrees to reimburse the County for the City's share of all reasonable costs. 5. The City Clerk is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and the County Elections Department of the County of Shasta.
