HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2011-061 - Gerard Kersten J -1t e e RESOLUTION NO. 2011 - 61 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING COMMENDING AND HONORING SUPPORT SERVICES DIRECTOR GERARD KERSTEN FOR OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE WHEREAS, Gerard Kersten has served as Support Services Director for the City of Redding since September 22, 1997; and WHEREAS, prior to moving to Redding, Mr. Kersten began his career in Kern County where he served as a Program Analyst and the Deputy County Administrative Officer from June 1979 to Apri11987; and, from Apri11987 to September 1997, served as the Deputy County Executive and the General Services Director for Tulare County; and WHEREAS, Mr. Kersten's numerous accomplishments during his tenure with the City of Redding include: . Cleaning up Mary Lake so that it was an asset to be enjoyed by all citizens; . Keeping the Downtown Mall roof repaired and safe from collapse until it could be removed; . Negotiating a fixed price full maintenance and repair contract (including replacement of all equipment which fails) for all HV AC systems in the City; . Leading the installation of the Solar Project at the Municipal Airport; . Drafting and negotiating with Charter Cable. for a fiber optic network at no cost to the City to connect 17 City facilities; . Arguing and persuading the CARB rule-making committee to amend its proposed ruling so Shasta County (and others in attainment) would be exempted from the Nitrogen Oxides (NO x) reduction mandates saving the City millions of dollars; . Helping the City get on the path to implementing V oIP and Remote Desktop Services; . Lending his "Golden Voice" for recording several State ofthe City addresses and for the "Reach Out Redding" information line; and WHEREAS, in performance of his duties and responsibilities for the last 13 Y2 years, Gerard Kersten was a true public servant; always striving for a "win-win" solution; providing mentoring and counseling to many of his employees; continually attributing his success to having the best staff; his willingness to become the "fountain keeper," keeping people out of the fountain at City Hall; and always being accessible to his employees, co-workers and the public.
