RESOLUTION NO. 2011 - 38
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING MAY 1 AND MAY 2,2011, AS "CALIFORNIA PEACE
OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAYS;" MAY 5,2011, AS "SHASTA COUNTY PEACE
OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY;" AND MAY 15 THROUGH MAY 21, 2011, AS
"NATIONAL POLICE WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING
WHEREAS, May 1 and May 2, 2011, have been designated by the California State Legislature as
California Peace Officers' Memorial Days; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 15 through May21, 2011, has been designated "National Police Week"
by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, 161 officers were killed nationwide, with 11 California officers being killed in
the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding Police
Department, the Shasta County Sheriff s Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well as the many
county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby proclaims
May 1 and May 2,2011, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial Days;" Thursday, May 5,2011, as "Shasta
County Peace Officers' Memorial Day;" and May 15 through 21,2011, as "National Police Memorial Week"
in the City of Redding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civi~ organizations to salute
this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by attending the Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial,
and directs that all City of Redding flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday, May 5,2011, in honor of the peace
officers killed in the line of duty during 2010.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read and adopted at a regular
meeting of the City Council on the 5th day of April, 2011, by the following vote:
