HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2010-173 - Mary Leas Stegall ~ ,.. e e RESOLUTION NO. 2010 - 173 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING COMMENDING AND HONORING MARY LEAS STEGALL FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF REDDING WHEREAS, Mary Leas Stegall served as a member ofthe Redding City Council from December 5, 2000, to December 7,2004, and from January 18, 2005, through December 7, 2010, providing ten years of dedicated service to the community; and WHEREAS, during her tenure, Mary Leas Stegall served as Vice Mayor from December 2, 2003, to December 7,2004, and from December 5,2006, to December 3,2007; and served as Mayor from December 4,2007, through December 2, 2008; and WHEREAS, Mary Leas Stegall served as Chair of the Redding Redevelopment Agency, the Redding Housing Authority, the Redding Municipal Library Board of Trustees, and the Redding Area Bus Authority; and WHEREAS, Mary Leas Stegall has been a passionate supporter of community planning for the benefit of residents and businesses in Redding and provided leadership in the adoption and implementation ofthe 2000-2020 General Plan; Downtown Redding Specific Plan; Parkview Neighborhood Revitalization Plan and Traffic Protection Plan; Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Revitalization Plan; and Lake Boulevard Area Revitalization Plan; and WHEREAS, Mary Leas Stegall dedicated countless hours as Council Liaison to Redding Electric Utility, serving as a Commissioner for the Northern California Power Agency; was appointed to the League of California Cities Environmental Quality Subcommittee; and encouraged Redding Municipal Utilities to analyze the legislative and regulatory implications of climate change and Assembly Bill 32; and WHEREAS, as Council Liaison to Community Services, Mary Leas Stegall championed the adoption of the Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan, Recreation Strategic Plan, and the Bikeway Plan; and supported construction of the Redding Municipal Library, Redding Soccer Park, Big League Dreams Sports Park, and Redding Aquatic Center; and WHEREAS, Mary Leas Stegall encouraged enhanced focus for greater regional planning and collaboration through participation on the Regional Transportation Planning Agency; ensured consideration of non-motorized travel and aesthetics on capital projects such as the Cypress A venue Bridge and the Dana to Downtown Project; and supported and participated in removal of the Downtown Mall Roof Project; and WHEREAS, Mary Leas Stegall executed the role of City Council Member, Vice Mayor, and Mayor with pride, integrity and accountability to the public she served. ~ D I :J UJ .. ~ e e NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding pays tribute to a woman respected and admired for her leadership and dedication to the betterment of our community.
