A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF REDDING PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 3-9,2010, AS

of its choice to operate a community-owned, not-for-profit electric utility.
. B. The citizens of Redding have local control and ownership of the City's public power system,
and have a direct say in utility operations and policies.
C. The City of Redding Electric Utility provides our homes, businesses, social services, and local
governmental agencies with reliable, efficient, and cost-effective electricity by employing sound business
practices designed to ensure the best possible service at the lowest possible rates.
D. . The City of Redding Electric Utility is a valuable community asset and contributes
substantially to the well being of local citizens through energy efficiency, customer service,
environmental protection, economic development, and safety awareness.
E. The City's public power system operates without profit, allowing all benefits to flow entirely
to our community and its citizens and consumers.
F. Not-for-profit rates and citizen participation combine to ensure that the City of Redding
operates in the public's interest.
G. The City of Redding is one of2,000 public power systems in the United States that, through
local control and ownership, ensure competitive customer service-oriented electric utility benefits to
consumers, and a measure of stability at a time when the electric utility industry is undergoing a dramatic
change.
H. The American Public Power Association initiated Public Power Week in 1987, and it has
proven a successful means to educate Redding's consumers and the general public about public power's
public service mission and community betterment goals.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED that the week of October 3-9, 2010, be designated
as Public Power Week in Redding to honor the City of Redding Electric Utility and its 89 years of service
to the community, its local control and ownership, policy makers, and employees who work together to
provide the best possible electric service to our community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that our community join hands with other public power
communities across the nation and celebrate the benefits of public power for our local and national
progress.
