SUMMARY OF

ORDINANCE NO. 2474
The following is a summary report of the City of Redding's Ordinance No. 2474, an
ordinance of the City Council of the City of Redding amending the Redding Municipal Code by
repealing, adding or amending various sections as noted below.
The proposed Ordinance was introduced and read by the Redding City Council on November
16, 2010, and will be considered for adoption at its next regular meeting.
This proposed Ordinance shall take effect 30 days after the date of its adoption, or January
1, 2011, whichever occurs last, and the City Clerk shall certify the adoption and cause its publication
according to law.
Background:
The proposed Ordinance amends Chapter 9.20 (FIRE PREVENTION) by adopting the 2010
Edition of the California Fire Code and Standards with Amendments. The proposed ordinance
refers to specific findings regarding local climatic conditions which necessitate and justify the
adoption of the new Fire Code. The substantive change is:
9.20.010 California Fire Code adopted. Amends the Code to adopt the 2010 edition of the Fire
Code. (Item C requires fire sprinklers in all new residential construction as required by the 2010
California Fire Code).

ORDINANCE NO. 2474
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF REDDING AMENDING REDDING
MUNICIPAL CODE CHAPTER 9.20 (FIRE PREVENTION) BY AMENDING
SECTION 9.20.010 AND 9.20.060 RELATING TO THE ADOPTION OFTHE
2010 CALIFORNIA FIRE CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Findings of fact and need for changes or modifications to the 2007 Edition
of the California Fire Code because of local conditions were adopted in 2007 and remain in full
force and effect. No additional changes or modifications to the 2010 California Fire Code are
proposed for consideration with adoption of the 2010 California Fire Code.
Section 2. Chapter 9.20 (Fire Prevention), section 9.20.010 and section 9.20.060 are
hereby amended to read as follows:
9.20.010
California Fire Code adopted.
A. That certain document entitled "2010 Edition of the California Fire Code
with Amendments, including all Appendices except 'D' and the 2009
International Fire Code ofthe International Code Council," is adopted as the
California Fire Code of the city and included in and made a part of this code
as though set forth at length herein. Additionally, National Fire Protection
Association (NFP A) Standards 10, 13, 13R, 13D and 72 most recent editions
are adopted. 13R and 13D are amended requiring bathrooms and garages to
be fire sprinklered.
B. Three copies of the 2010 Edition of the California Fire Code with
Appendices, all certified to be true copies by the city clerk, are on file in the
office of the city clerk and open to public inspection.

9.20.060
Designation of very high fire hazard severity zone and fire safe building
construction methods for wildland-urban interface.
New structures, including decks and patio covers, located in the very high fire hazard severity
zone as designated on the 2008 City of Redding Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone Map
and on file in the office of the city building official shall comply with Chapter 7 A of the
California Building Code and Chapter 49 ofthe California Fire Code, as outlined in the 2008
Fire Safe Building Construction and Methods Manual for Wildland-Urban Interface ~
document provided by the city of Redding. :s

Section 3. The passage of this ordinance is not a "project" according to the definition in
the California Environmental Quality Act, and therefore is not subject to the provisions requiring
environmental review.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect 30 days after the date of its adoption and the
City Clerk shall certify to the adoption thereof and cause its publication according to law.
