RESOLUTION NO. 2009 - 32 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING PROCLAIMING MAY 7 AND MAY 8, 2009, AS "CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAYS;" MAY 14, 2009, AS "SHASTA COUNTY PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY;" AND MAY 10 THROUGH MAY 16, 2009, AS "NATIONAL POLICE WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING WHEREAS, May 7 and May 8, 2009, have been designated by the California State Legislature as California Peace Officers' Memorial Days; and WHEREAS, the week of May 10 through May 16, 2009, has been designated "National Police Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential Proclamation; and WHEREAS, in 2008, 140 officers were killed nationwide, with 12 California officers being killed in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the Redding Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriffs Department, and the Anderson Police Department, as well as the many county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County; NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby proclaims May 7 and May 8, 2009, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial Days;" Thursday, May 14, 2009, as "Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial Day;" and May 10 through 16, 2009, as "National Police Memorial Week" in the City of Redding. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic organizations to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by attending the Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of Redding flags be flown atha1f-staffon Thursday, May 14, 2009, in honor of the peace officers killed in the line ofduty during 2008. ~ o .-Q I \JJ }J . .
