REDDING ESTABLISHING A FIRE INSPECTION FEE FOR
BUSINESSES REQUIRED TO HAVE ANNUAL INSPECTIONS
PURSUANT TO STATE LAW.
WHEREAS, during the 2003-2005 biennial budget process, an additional fire inspector position
was added to the budget contingent upon the City Council adopting a Fire Inspection Fee; and
WHEREAS, State law mandates the Fire Department to inspect annually certain high-risk
businesses and occupancies, including motels/hotels, homes for the elderly, and apartments; and
WHEREAS, notwithstanding that State law mandates such inspections annually, the City of
Redding Fire Department does not have the resources necessary to perform the required inspections
as required; and
WHEREAS, a new fire inspector position will allow the City of Redding Fire Department to
perform and complete the required inspections in a timely manner; and
WHEREAS, as of July, 1, 2003, the State Fire Marshal has ceased to conduct fire inspections
on health care facilities; and
WHEREAS, at the budget hearing on July 1, 2003, the Fire Department developed the attached
fee schedule.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding adopt
a Fire Inspection Fee for those businesses that are required by State law to have an annual inspection.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read, and adopted at a
regular meeting of the City Council on the 21stday of October., 2003, by the following vote:
