A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF JULY 2003 AS "PROJECT RE-DIRECTORY" iMONTH
IN THE ,CITY OF REDDING IN SUPPORT OF
THE PHONE DIRECTORY RECYCLING CAMPAIGN
WHEREAS, the City of Redding, in cooperation with SBC (formerl) Pacific Bell), is a proud participant
in the "Project Re-Directory" phone directory recycling campaign to encourage residents to dispose of outdated
phone directories from July 11th through August 11th, 2003; and
WHEREAS, at least 64,150 new phone books will be delivered in the City of Redding, in 2003, each
weighing 2.67 pounds, totaling 88.53 tons of recyclable paper that can be diverted from landfills; and
WHEREAS, SBC uses outdated phone directories collected from cities and Counties throughout the
Western United States to manufacture new phone directories in a unique "closed loop" recycling effort; and
WHEREAS, Redding residents are invited to participate in a recycling kick off event at the Redding Aquatic
Center on July 11th, 2003, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and bring an outdated SBC Or Pacific Bell phone directory
to the Aquatic Center and receive a swim pass good for one free swim session; and
WHEREAS, Redding residents are encouraged to recycle their outdated SBC or Pacific Bell phone
directories by placing them in specially designated recycling containers with SBC banners which will be located at
Raley's Supermarkets on Lake Boulevard and Hartnell Avenue, Holiday Quality Foods on Westside Road, Placer
Street and Hartnell Avenue, Food Maxx on Chum Creek Road, Safeway on East Cypress Avenue, the SBC Office
on Chum Creek Road, the Redding Aquatic Center on Quartz Hill Road, City Hall on Cypress Avenue, the West
Central Landfill on Clear Creek Road, and the City's Transfer & Recycling Facility on Abemathy Lane from July 1 lth
through August 11 th.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby proclaims
the month of July 2003 as "Project Re-Directory" month in the City of Redding and urges citizens to participate
in the phone directory recycling campaign by disposing of outdated phone directories at the listed locations.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the: foregoing Resolution was introduced and read at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of Redding on the 1 st day of July 2003, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the
following vote:
