A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
COMMENDING THE MEMBERS OF THE DOWNTOWN TRANSPORTATION
IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE FOR VALUABLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY
OF REDDING
WHEREAS, on May 21, 2002, the City Council appointed the Downtown Transportation
Improvement Committee to provide recommendations to the City Council on how best to allocate
approximately $12 million in State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) funds between three potential
Downtown circulation improvement projects: (1) Downtown Mall Circulation Improvements; (2) Downtown
Railroad Grade Separation; and (3) Relocation of the Downtown Railroad Switching Operations; and
WHEREAS, the Downtown Transportation Improvement Committee served 12 months, from
May 2002 through May 2003, and accomplished the following:
Toured the Downtown Mall and potential railroad grade separation and switching operation
locations.
Hosted and participated in three community workshops to receive input from the public.
Assisted staff and the consultants in identifying viable design options relative to each project
for analysis.
Selected the preferred circulation solution and cost estimate for each project.
Adopted the consultant's final reports as the Committee's findings as to the final design options
and cost estimates.
Forwarded recommendations to the City Council on how best to allocate $12 million in STIP
funds to the projects. ~
WHEREAS, it is anticipated that the efforts of the Downtown Transportation Improvement Committee
will prove to be a lasting contribution to the improved circulation and revitalization of Downtown.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Red.ding hereby
commends the members of the Downtown Transportation Improvement Committee for their valuable
contributions and service to the City of Redding and its citizens.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that thej~oregoing Resolution was introduced, read, and adopted at a regular
meeting of the City Council on the [7 t~ day of June 2003 by the following vote:
