A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
REDDING PROCLAIMING MAY 8 AND MAY 9, 2003 AS
"CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAYS"; MAY
15, 20032 AS '.'SHASTA COUNTY PEACE OFFICERS'
.MEMORIAL DAY"; AND MAY 1'1 THROUGH MAY 17, 2003
AS "NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS' WEEK" IN THE CITY OF
REDDING.
WHEREAS, May 8 and May 9, 2003 have been designated California Peace
Officers' Memorial Days; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 11 through May 17, 2003 has been designated
UNational Peace Officers' Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential
Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 2002, 153 officers were killed nationwide, with 9 California
officers being feloniously killed; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the
Redding Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the
Anderson Police Department, as well as the many county, state and federal
agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Redding hereby
proclaims May 8 and May 9, 2003 as uCalifomia Peace Officers' Memodal Days";
Thursday, May 15, 2003 as "Shasta County Peace Officers Memorial Day"; and
May 11 through 17, 2003 as ~National Police Officers' Memorial Week" in the City
of Redding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic
organizations to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by
attending the Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of
Redding flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday, May 15, 2003 in honor of the
police officers and fire fighters killed in the line of duty during 2002.
I HEREBY CER'rlFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read and
adopted at a regular meeting of the City Council on thel5th day of Apr±l, 2003 by
the following vote:
