A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
DECLARING APRIL 5 THROUGH APRIL 12, 2003,
"WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" IN THE CITY OF REDDING
WHEREAS, the Shasta Children and Families First Commission, and California Cascade
Association for the Education of Young Children (CCAEYC) have joined forces to orchestrate a
country-wide celebration for "Week of the Young Child," and
WHEREAS, the celebration will include a collection of events and activities highlighting
the importance of families, early childhood professionals, and communities working together to
support healthy development and quality early learning experiences for young children; arid
WHEREAS, by calling attention to the need for high-quality, early childhood services,
programs and educational experiences for all children, it is hoped that the quality and availability of
such services will improve to demonstrate a worthy commitment to our children's futures; and
WHEREAS, the week-long event will provide families, agencies, community groups and
individuals with an opportunity to focus on the critical role each plays in the healthy development
and successful education of children; and
WHEREAS, the more time and resources we invest in our children, the more we invest in
the future of our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, iBE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding
hereby proclaims April 5 through April 12, 2003, as "Week of the Young Child" in Redding and
urges all citizens to recognize and support the needs of young children in our community.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced and read at a regular
meeting of the Redding City Council of the City of Redding on the 1st day of April 2003, and was
duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote:

NOES: Council Members - None
ABSTAIN: Council Members - None
ABSENT: Council Members - None
Mathena, Pohlmeyer, Stegall and Cibula
