OF REDDING COMMENDING AND HONORING
DAVID L. MCGEORGE FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
TO THE CITY OF REDDING
WHEREAS, David L. McGeorge served as a member of the Redding City Council from
April 19, 1994 to December 3, 2002, providing more than 8 years of dedicated service to the
community; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, David L. McGeorge served as Mayor on two occasions, from
April 16, 1996 to April 15, 1997, and again from December 5, 2000 to December 4, 2001; and
WHEREAS, David L. McGeorge has provided consistent, superior leadership during the
formulation, construction and/or completion phases of the following projects and successes:
Elimination of the 23% Electric Utility Surcharge two years early
Completion of the Redding Civic Center
RABA's Intermodal Facility and remodel of RABA's Maintenance Facility
Downtown Specific and General Plans
Generation Unit #5 at the Redding Power Plant
The Market Street Demonstration Block and the Yuba Street Streetscape
Improved Economic Development
Ten Year Financial Plan
Lake Redding Bridge
Turtle Bay Arboretum and Museum
Sports Complex
Aquatics Center
New Corporation Yard and Transfer Station
Extended the Sacramento River Trail
Continuing decline in crime statistics achieved while serving as City Council Liaison
to the Police and Fire Departments; and
WHEREAS, David L. McGeorge has executed the role of City Council Member and Mayor
with pride and integrity; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his role as Council Member, David L. McGeorge has always
demonstrated endless generosity to the community being the first to offer his assistance and
resources in support of civic, community and social events - lending his renowned culinary skills
to the Redding City Employee Appreciation Breakfast, the REA Annual Picnic, the City of Redding
Clean-A-Thon and the Veterans Appreciation Luncheon; and
WHEREAS, David L. McGeorge also maintains strong ties to the community through his
membership in organizations such as the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce, the Exchange
Club where he served as Chair for the Redding Airshow for four years, the Asphalt Cowboys, Sons
of Italy, and Mercy Medical Center Advisory Board.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redding
pays tribute to a man respected and admired for his leadership, dedication, humanity, humility and
generosity.
I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced and read at a regular
meeting of the Redding City Council of the City of Redding on the 3~d day of December 2002, and
was duly adopted at said meeting by the following vote:
