HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2002-165 - General Municipal ElectionRESOLUTION NO. 2002- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE CONSOLIDATED GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF REDDING ON NOVEMBER 5, 2002 WHEREAS, a Consolidated General Municipal Election was duly held in the City of Redding on the 5th day of November, 2002, for the purpose of electing three City Council Members and a City Clerk for a full term of four years each, and for the purpose of deciding one measure, as set forth hereinafter; and WHEREAS, the Shasta County Clerk has canvassed the return s of the election pursuant to law; and NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING HEREBY RESOLVES AND DECLARES AS FOLLOWS: That the persons receiving votes for the offices of Council Member, and the total number of votes that each received is as follows: MEMBER CITY COUNCIL Mark H. Cibula John R. Mathena Carl P. Kight Fred Weatheril~ Patrick Henry Jones Michael Mitchell TOTAL VOTES 13,752 12,406 11,720 8,822 7,973 2,911 That the person receiving votes for the office of City Clerk, and the total number of votes received is as follows: CITY CLERK Connie Strohmayer TOTAL VOTES 17,104 That the measure submitted to the electors at said election and the total votes for and against said measure are as follows: o o o 10. 11. 12. MEASURE A The citizens of Redding do ordain as follows: The City shall not add to its drinking water any substance or chemical for the purpose of treating the physical or mental functions of any person unless the chemical meets certain enumerated criteria including, but not limited to, approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This measure exempts chemicals or substances intended to make the water safe or potable. VOTES IN FAVOR VOTES AGAINST 13,060 10,199 That the total number of electors voting at said election was 24,497, and the total number of votes cast for the offices of Council Members and City Clerk was 74,688. That the three (3) candidates receiving the highest number of votes for the offices of Council Member are Mark H. Cibula, John R. Mathena and Carl P. Kight. That the candidate receiving the highest number of votes for the office of City Clerk is Connie Strohrnayer. That the number of votes cast for each of the candidates for the offices of Council Member and the office of City Clerk at each precinct, and the absentees, are as set forth and shown on the tally attached and made a part hereof by reference. That Mark H. Cibula, John R. Mathena and Carl P. Kight are hereby declared to have been elected as Council Members of the City of Redding for a full term of four years each, effective December 3, 2002. That Connie Strohmayer is hereby declared to have been elected as City Clerk of the City of Redding for a full term of four years, effective December 3, 2002. That the total number of votes cast for and against Measure A was 23,259. That the total number of votes cast for and against Measure A at each precinct and absentees are as set forth on the tally attached and made a part hereof by reference. That a majority of the qualified electors voting on said Measure A, having voted for said Measure, said Measure has passed.
