HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance - 2321 - Amend Chapter 9.20ORDINANCE NO. ,~,~/' AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING AMENDING CHAPTER 9.20 (FIRE PREVENTION), SECTION 9.20.010C (CALIFORNIA FIRE CODE ADOPTED) OF THE REDDING MUNICIPAL CODE. THE CITY COUNCIL. OF THE CITY OF REDDING DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Redding.fffunicipal Code Section 9.20.010C (California Fire Code adopted) is amended to read as follows: ° As an amendment to the California Fire Code, in addition to the requirements of Section 1003 of the California Fire Code, no structure requiring a fire fi.ow of more than two thousand GPM as determined by Appendix III-A of the California Fire Code, Fire Flow Requirements for Buildings, or more than l~vo stories in height, shall be constructed or altered per the California Building Code unless protected by an automatic sprinkler system meeting the requirements of Section 1001 of the California Fire Code. Light Hazard buildings as defined by NFPA 13, requiring a fire flow exceeding 2,000 GPM but less than 3,000 GPM, may satisfy the automatic sprinkler requirement by installation of a sprinkler system satisfying NFPA 13 quick-response sprinkler head standards. The Fire Department Connection (FDC) for light hazard occupancies may be installed on the building exterior when not obscured or blocked by landscape or other fixed obstructions. The FDC must be accessible and be within 100 feet of a fire hydrant. University of Southern California approved devices may be installed inside the structure so long as the installation satisfies all required service and testing access requirements as defined in the California Plumbing Code. Actuation of the fire sp~rinkler system shall sound an audible signal throughout the building where required in Section 1003.3.All existing structures shall meet the requirements of this section when, in the opinion of the chief, a change of occupancy or character of the occupancy is made and a greater hazard to life or property exists or the required fire flows are increased. Exceptions: 1. R-3 occupancies. Alterations to buildings not exceeding fifty percent of the 'building value and not increasing the total fire flow requirement of the building. Section 2: The passage of this ordinance amendment is not a '?roject" according to the definition in the California Environmental Quality Act (Cal. Pub. Res. Code § 21000 et seq.), and is not subject to the provisions requiring environmental review. Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect 30 days after the date of its adoption, and the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption thereof and cause its publication according to law.
