RESOLUTION NO. 2007 - 58
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING MAY 2 AND MAY 3, 2007, AS "CALIFORNIA PEACE
OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAYS"; MAY 17, 2007, AS "SHASTA COUNTY
PEACE OFFICERS' MEMORIAL DAY"; AND MAY 13 THROUGH MAY 19,
2007, AS "NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS' WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING.
WHEREAS, May 2 and May 3,2007, have been designated by the California
State Legislature as California Peace Officers' Memorial Days; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 13 through May 19, 2007, has been designated
"National Peace Officers' Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential
Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 2006, 145 officers were killed nationwide, with 12 California
officers being killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the
Redding Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the
Anderson Police Department, as well as the many county, state and federal agencies
that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Redding
hereby proclaims May 2 and May 3,2007, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial
Days"; Thursday, May 17, 2007, as "Shasta County Peace Officers Memorial Day";
and May 13 through 19,2007, as "National Police Officers' Memorial Week" in the
City of Redding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic
organizations to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by
attending the Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of
Redding flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday, May 17,2007, in honorofthe police
officers killed in the line of duty during 2006.
