RESOLUTION NO. 2006-71
A RESOLUTION OF TI-IE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING
PROCLAIMING MAY 4 ANID MAY 5,2006, AS "CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICERS'
MEMORIAL DAYS"; MAY 11, :2006, AS "SHASTA COUNTY PEACE OFFICERS'
MEMORIAL DAY"; AND MAY 14 THROUGH MAY 20, 2006 AS "NATiONAL
PEACE OFFICERS' WEEK" IN THE CITY OF REDDING
WHEREAS, May 4 and May 5, 2006, have been designated by the California
State Legislature as California Peace Officers' Memorial Days; and
WHEREAS, the week of May 14 through May 20, 2006, has been designated
"National Peace Officers" Week" by both an Act of Congress and Presidential
Proclamation; and
WHEREAS, in 2005, 155 officers were killed nationwide, with 18 California
officers being killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends on the services of the
Redding Police Department, the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, and the
Anderson Police DepartmHnt, as well as the many county, state and federal agencies
that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta County;
NOW, THEREFORIE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City of Redding
hereby proclaims May 4 and May 5, 2006, as "California Peace Officers' Memorial
Days"; Thursday, May 11, 2006" as "Shasta County Peace Officers Memorial Day";
and May 14 through 20, 2006, as "National Police Officers' Memorial Week" in the
City of Redding.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges residents and civic
organizations to salute this City's dedicated law enforcement professionals by
attending the Shasta County Peace Officers' Memorial, and directs that all City of
Redding flags be flown at half-mast on Thursday, May 11,2006, in honorofthe police ';d
officers killed in the line of duty during 2005. pr

I HEREBY CERTIFY that the foregoing resolution was introduced, read and
