RESOLUTION NO. 2006- 32
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TilE CITY OF
REDDING SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE
SACRAMENTO RIVER NATIONAL RECREATION AREA
WHEREAS, the Sacramento River is the most important river in California for water, recreation
and anadromous fish; and
WHEREAS, both the City of Redding General Plan and the Park, Trails and Open Space Plan
support a region-wide strategy for protecting and enhancing the Sacramento River; and
WHEREAS, the majority of this historic riparian habitat of the Sacramento River systems have been
developed and/or sold to private entities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redding values the importance of designated recreational lands for both
its residents and for visitors, and is committed to supporting efforts to provide recreational opportunities in
the region; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redding supports efforts by the Bureau of Land Management and others
to establish a regional Sacramento River Parkway between Shasta Dam and Red Bluff; and
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Land Management administers over 17,000 acres of public land along
the Sacramento River, mostly in Tehama County, with approximately 1,000 acres in Shasta County, along
Battle Creek and at Reading Island; and
WHEREAS, the Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association, the BLM Resource Advisory Council
for Northwest California, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors and the Tehama County Board of
Supervisors are supporting the National Recreation Area designation; and
WHEREAS, the Bureau of Land Management has received national recognition of its management
of the nationally significant natural resources within this area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
We, the City Council of the City of Redding, strongly support the establishment of the Sacramento
River National Recreation Area for those lands that are currently public with the boundaries of the Bend
Area of Critical Environmental Concern as described in the Redding Resource Management Plan and Record
of Decision of July, 1993.

of the Redding City Council on the 21 st day of February, 2006, and was duly adopted at said meeting by the
