HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2006-022 - Destruction of certain records e e I RESOLUTION NO. 2006-22 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDDING AUTHORIZING THE DESTRUCTION OF CERTAIN RECORDS IN THE CUSTODY OF THE REDDING POLICE DEPARTMENT. WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has recommended that certain records ofthe Redding Police Department, which have been retained for two, five, or seven years pursuant to Penal Code Section 832.5 and are not required to be kept by statute, should be destroyed; and WHEREAS, section 34090 et seq. of the Government Code specifically provides that certain records may be destroyed, provided the written consent of the City Attorney has been obtained, and provided the City Council gives its approval of such destruction by resolution; and WHEREAS, the City Attorney has given his written consent hereunder to the destruction of said records; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that the Chief of Police is hereby authorized to destroy n~cords ofthe Redding Police Department that are two (2), five (5), or seven (7) years old, which are identified in the attached Exhibit A. Nothing herein shall be deemed to authorize the destruetion of any records which are specifically required to be kept by statute. Records of vehicles towed by the Redding Police Department. Includes registered owner 2003 notification receipts. (Original tow reports maintained in Records Division . Records of items of property sold, bought, or awned through secondhand dealers. 2003 Paperwork forwarded to our agency by repossession companies and/or lenders as follow- 2003 up to their phone call when the vehicle was repossessed. The teletype reflecting our entry of the vehicle into the California Law Enforcement System as repossessed and the vehicle registration information is attached. For misdemeanors and infractions which would include traffic violations, some municipal code 2003 violations, misdemeanor warrant cites to court, and misdemeanors such as possession of tobacco by a minor. (Misdemeanors being prosecuted by the DA are not included. The DA receives those copies). The original copy of the citation is retained by the court. Cards filled out by officers in the field when making contact with subjects under suspicious 2003 circumstances. This data is input into the computer system by the Investigations Division. Receipts given for monies received for fees charged for various services. For example, report 2003 requests, fingerprint services, vehicle releases, etc. A copy of each receipt is forwarded daily to the City Treasurer and is retained in their records. All hard copies of police reports which have been imaged from year 2003 except for reports 2003 required to keep by statute. Records of incidents of overtime worked by the em 10 ees of the Redding Police De artment. 2003 REDDING POLICE DEPARTMENT 2006 RECORDS DESTRUCTION REQUEST Dead Cards Includes cards used by Records to take initial information from reporting persons at the front 2003 counter or telephone before relaying to the Tele hone Res onse Unit or Shascom. Applications from citizens and employees for 2003 and Prior tinge rinting. Rosters providing staffing levels for the daily 2003 and Prior schedules. Computer printout of all arrests which occur each month. Original forwarded to Department of 2003 Justice. This information is accessible through Redding Police De artment's computer system.
