The praclamation was established by a joint resolution c�f Congress in 1962; and WHE A5, in 2025; 115 officers were kil�ed natianwide, with 13 Califarnia officers being killed in the line of duty; and WHE AS, the safety of our citizenry greatly depends �n the servic�s of the Redding Police Department, the Sha�ta Cc�unty Sheriff s Department, and the Anderson Folice I�epartrnent, as well as the many county, state and federal agencies that make up the law enforcement community in Shasta Cc�unty; NUW, THEREF� , BE IT SQLVEI� that the City Council of th� City of Redding hereby praclaims May 4, 2026, as California Peace (�fficer Memorial Day; and May 14, 2026, as Shasta County Peace Officers Memorial I)ay; ancl May 15, 20'26 as Nati�nal Feace �ff cer Mernorial Day; and BE IT FURTHEA S+ULVEll that the City Council urges residents and civic organizations tc� salute this City's dedicated law enfarcement professionals by attending the Shasta C�runty Peace ()fficers Memarial, and directs that ail City af Redding flags be flown at half-staff on May �, May 14,and May 15, 2026, in honor of the peace officers killed in the line of duty during 2025.
