�HE AS, in 1872 J. Steriing Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculnire that a
special day be s�t aside for the planting af trees; and
WHE A�,Arbar Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
WHE AS, trees can reduee the erosian �f our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating
and cooling costs, maderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen, and provide habitat
for wildiife; and
WH� A�, Arbor Day was first observed with the planting of more than one million trees in
Nebraska; and
WHE AS, trees are a �renewable resource, giving us paper, wood to build our hames,fuel for
our fires, and cauntless other wood products and by-products; and
WHE AS,trees in our City increase property values, enhance the ecanomic v�tality of business
areas, and beautify aur community; ai�d
WHE AS,trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual renewal; and
WHE AS, the City of Redding has been recognized as a Tree City U.S.A. by the National
Arbor Day Foundation for the forty-fifth consecutive year, and desires to continue its tree-planting
activities;
NOW,THE F(} ,BE IT SOLVEI)that the City Council of the City of Redding hereby:
1. Proclairns April 24; 2026, as Community Tree Planting Day, otherwise known as Arhor
L�ay.
2. Recognizes the Txee City LI:S.A. Award.
I�E IT FURT R SQLVED that the City Council encourages all citizens residing within
the city limits of the City of Redding to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands,
support our City's Urban Forestry Program, and plant trees to gladden the hearts and promc�te the
we11-being af present and fiiture generations.
I HE B� �ERTI�Y that the fi�regoing resolution was introduced at a regular meeting af the
City Council of the City of Redding on the 21 st day of April, 2026, and was duly adcapted at said
meeting by the following vote:
