DtJWNTClWN TRAIL, PHURUS Tt�l'I (HEART FLECTifI►N PLACE) WHE AS, The Redding Cultural Uverloc�k project 1c�cated abave the Sacramento River� on the Diestelhorst to I�owntawn Tr�i1 at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Court Street, originater� frorn community input during discussions held by Shasta Living Streets at a Cultural District meetinb in�{�19; and W�IE AS, Local Native participants expressed a strong desire for a cultural asset representing Native heritage within the boundaries of the Redding Cultural District; and E AS, the City af Redding was awarded$1,240,004 for the Redding Cultural Trail C?verloak project that will include interpretive panels ta highlight the Wintu Tribe, the railraad, Mount 5hasta, and the culture o�bic�cling; and WHE AS, t�n Sanuary 12, 2f�25, the Wintu Tribal Council was held to discuss ways to conneet Wintu culture with this location, discuss designs and imagery, Wintu words, themes and names, and project name suggestions; and WHE AS, the Wintu Tribal Council agreed to suggest P�'urus Topi (Heart Reflection P1ace) to move forward; and W�E AS, an June 1l, 2025, the Community Services Advisary Commission recommended Phurus Topi {Heart Reflection P1ace) as the preferred name recognizing the historical influence �f the Wintu culture; and NOW, THE FO , BE IT S+O►LVE1? that the City Cc�uncil af the City t�f Redding hereby: l. Apprr�ves the naming of the designated plaza adjacent to the Diestelhorst to Downtown Trail, �'�'�rus To�i. 2. Authori�es the Directc�r of Community Services to make necessary changes tc� reflect the new name.
