Dear City Council,
Learn why this is important
I know the difficulty of making spending decisions with a restricted
budget, but I implore you to keep the Civic open with COR
financial support. We have worked so hard to create a community
that attracts the professionals we need to support our economy.
Closure of the Civic would reverse much of the progress we've
made and would degrade public safety funding even further.
The Civic Auditorium is a vital contributor to the local economy, generating $84
million in annual economic activity and supporting 540 jobs.
- Irreplaceable Venue:
- As the county's largest venue, it attracts external revenue and hosts events
that cannot be accommodated elsewhere in the region.
9
• Cultural Catalyst:
• The venue serves as an essential cultural hub, aiding in the recruitment of
high-level professionals, such as doctors and engineers, who are necessary for
the city's growth.
• Public Safety:
• Maintaining this "economic engine" is linked to public safety, as the resulting
tax revenue—including an estimated
• $825,000 in sales tax—funds
• essential city services.
Historical Funding Comparison
The current financial model under Advance Redding (AR) is significantly more cost-
effective than previous city -led operations:
• Historical Costs (2010):
• When the City of Redding (COR) staffed the venue, the cost was $2.2
• million (plus $700k in TOT revenue) to host only
• 40 events.
• In 2025 dollars, that $2.2 million would equal approximately $3.14
• million.
•
• Current Efficiency:
• Advance Redding currently manages 75 events annually
• and is requesting $116K per month for the rest of fiscal year 2026, which
represents
• a substantial "bargain" compared to historical spending levels.
• Shift in Revenue:
• The loss of the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry (BSSM) tenant in June
2024, which previously provided roughly
• $650,000 in annual lease payments,
• has necessitated a new funding model.
••• -r •OTIM11
With a new City Manager expected to start in February 2026, a short-term funding
solution is recommended:
• Short -Term Funding:
• Provide support for at least the rest of this fical year.
• Long -Term Strategy:
• Use this window to collaborate with the incoming manager and Advance
Redding to establish a sustainable, long-term funding structure.
Thanks for your service. I know the pressure you're under and I
appreciate each one of you.

Dear Council Members,
As a Redding resident and frequent patron of Redding Civic Auditorium events, I'm
writing to ask you to take action at the February 3rd meeting to keep the Redding
Civic Auditorium open.
The Civic is a vital public asset. It supports local economic activity while also serving
as one of the few places where our community comes together for concerts,
graduations, school ceremonies, fundraisers, celebrations, and moments that mark
important chapters in our lives. It brings people of all ages and backgrounds together
under one roof in a way few places can.
I understand the City is facing difficult budget decisions. But allowing a productive
community asset to go dark does not eliminate cost or risk. It shifts it into lost
economic activity, reduced opportunity, and long-term recovery challenges for our
city.
The Civic plays an important role in what makes Redding feel connected and
complete. It supports local businesses, brings life and energy to our community, and
helps make Redding a place people are proud to call home. Closing it would be a loss
that would be felt for years. The improvement of talent that has been recruited to
perform in recent years has been dramatic and gives residents a reason to attend
cultural events without leaving town.
I respectfully ask you to act decisively on February 3rd and support a path forward
that keeps the Civic open and serving the people of Redding.
Thank you for your time and for considering how this decision affects !• the
economic health and the everyday life of our community.
