On roll -call the following Councilmen were present: Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson. Minutes of the gyevious Meetings were.approved as read. _ESOLUTION NO. 1500, RE: STREETS OF kAJOR Iiv'PORTANCE: Councilman Buchea moved, seconded by Councilman Dunlap to adopt Resolution No. 1500 declaring certain Streets to be Streets of Jajor.Lnportance in the City bf Redding. "Court Street from Sonoma Street to Schley Avenue, Schley Avenue from Court Street to Railroad Avenue, Railroad Avenue from Scriley Avenue to South City Limits; Guest Street from South City Limits to $!th Street, Olive Street from Placer Street to Eureka Way, Tddlanut Street from - Placer Street to Eureka ',"day." Voting was as follows: _ Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson Noes: Councilmen: None Absent: Councilmen: None QEdinance-No. 347,-R.E: GARBAGE RATES Councilman Haskell moved, seconded b.r Councilman Dunlap to waive second reading of Ordinance #347 relating to change in domestic garbage pickup rates. Voting was as follows: Ayes: Councilmen: "Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson Noes: Councilmen: None Absent: Councilmen: None Councilman Buchea moved, seconded by Councilman Swarts to adopt Ordinance No. 347 and ordered same to be published. ShASTA: Mayor Anderson read a letter from the Sierra Club asking for donation of $25.00 for Horse Camp on Mt. Shasta.. Letter was referred to the City Atty. Letter dated July 15, 1947 from the International City Managers Assn with invitation for representation at conference to be hdld in Coronado, California, October 5-9, 1947: Couhdilman.Buchea moved, seconded by Counci.1 man Swarts that City Mgr Storm attend -above mentioned me -.ting. Voting was as follows: Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson Noes: Councilmen: -None Absent: Councilmen: None Fred E.JLittle proprietor of Shasta Drug Store appeared and asked for relief on parking problem caused by thbeinstallation of Parking Meters. He has from ten to twelve deliverys to make a day, and with no back entrance to the store. This problem is to be looked into by the City Manager and the Chief of Police. TRANSFER OF FUNDS: Councilman Dunlap moved, seconded b, Councilman Haskell to transfer the sum of $10,000.00 from the -6lectrical Department.Fund to the General Fund. Voting was as follows: Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, S;:,arts and Anderson Noes: Councilmen: None Absent: Councilmen: None Councilman Dunlap Moved, seconded by Councilman Haskell to LOAN the sum of $1,000.00 to the Sgnitary Department Fund from the General Fund. On roll—call the follow— ing Counncilman were present: Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read. STATE NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY: Letter form Capt Frank Plww.ier, Capt of the Infantry of the State of California to negmbiate lease of land from the City of Redding for California National %uard purposes, whereby the State would erect an Armory. The City Council suggested that the City Manager look over sights near the Benton Airport for this purpose. REDDING MOSQUITO ABATEMENT DISTRICT: Letter from the Redding Mosquito Abatement District asked that Mr. Phil Hemsted be reappointed as a Board kember. This was referred to the City Atty for"ihpinmon H`gmsted �i.s noX longer a City Councilman. SIERRA CLUB: { In regard to a donation to the Sierra Club, the City Cou0cil decided that it is not legal to spend city funds `for such purposes. PARKING METER FUND: The City Council instructed that bills against the cost of installing and maintaining Parking meters be paid from the Parking LIeter Fund. Storm, City Manager. Storm, City I"ariagersaccompanying.the Mayor and Senator Carter to Sacramento to attend a Highway Commission,rAeeting Aug. 21, 1947 9M 1 RESOLUTI PACIFIC. to contruct road under R. R Councilman Buchea moved, e�donded by Councilman Dunlap to adopt Resolution No. 1501 that the Mayor be authorized to execute an agreement whereby the Southern Pacific Cozand the Central Pacific Railway Company would allow construction of a road under their bridge and tracks as per set forth in same agreement. Voting was as follows: Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson Noes: Councilmen: ;None Absent: Councilmen: Hone TRAFFIC: Councilman Swurts suggested that speeding and hazardous driving in the City be curtailed by the City Manager and the Police Department. All the Council was in agreement. DISABLED ATZIRICAN VETERANS FORGE, T;1 yq NOT SALE: Redding Chapter Disabled American Veterans were authorized to conduct a Forget -tee -hot sale in the business section of Redding on September 19-20, 1947; by motion of Councilman Buchea, second by Councilman Dunlap. Voting was as follows: Ayes: Couniulmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson Noes: Couriiilmen: None Absent: .Couhcilmen: None MONTHLY BILLS: Councilman Dunlap Moved, seconded by bills and salary claims as audited. Ayes: Councilmen*. Buchea, Dunlap, Noes: Councilmen: None Absent: Councilmen: None PUBLIC HAZARD: OLD HI SCHL BLDG: Councilman Haskell, to pay monthly - Voting was as follows: Haskell, Swarts.and Anderson Councilman Swarts brought up the matter of the Old High school building which has been standing partially burned for some time as a hazard to the public. As the New Fire Prevention Ordinance covers such matters, the City 14anager and the fire Chief were appointed to ihvest gate. As there was no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
