The meeting was called to order by Councilmam-Haskell, Acting Mayor.
On roll -call the following Councilmen-aere present: Buchea, Dunlap,
Swarts and Haskell. Absent: lMayor,iAndersod
Minutes of the previous meetings were approved as read.
Re: SLOT MACHINES:
Shasta County District Attorney Frank.Shuman appeared before theCity Council
with a request that an Ordinance be adopted making the use of slot machines illegal
within the Corporate territory of the county, so that when the County passes
such an Ordinance on'the unincorporated territory, the entire County would
be covered. After much discussion the matter was passed.o•-'f&-
Ordinalnce #344 - Re: SOLICITORS:
The City Council heard second reading of Ordinance 4344 requiring solicitors
to obtain a permit to solicit in the City of Reddirg. Councilman Buchea
moved, seconded by Councilman Dunlap that Ordinance #344 be adopted and
that same be published. Voting was as follows:
Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Swarts and Haskell.
Noes: Councilmen: None
Absent: Mayor Anderson
ORDINANCE #346 - RE: PARKING METERS.
The City Council heard first reading of Ordinance #346 which establishes
a system of Parking Meters in the City of Redding.
ORDINANCE - RE: GARBAGE RATES:
The City Council heard first reading covering new garbage pickup rates in
the City of Redding.
ORDINANCE -;- RE: FEES FOS OPENING TRANCHES:
The City Council heard second reading of Ordinance #345 in regard to charge
of,fees for opening of trenches.in the City Streets. Councilman Buchea moved,
seconded by Councilman Dunlap that same be adopted and ordered published..
Voting was as follows:
Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Swarts and Haskell
Noes: Councilmen: None
Absent: Mayor Anderson.
REDDING MUNICIPAL AIRPORT LIGHTING:.
City Manager Storm announced that the Southwest Airlines have asked for
Airport lighting for night landing—The matter was discussed and passed,O n'
ADVERTISE FOR PIPE: WATER DEPARTMENT:
Councilman Dunlap moved, seconded by Councilman Buchea that the City of
Redding advertise for a carload of pipe for the Water Department.
Voting was as follows:
Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, , Swarts and Haskell.
Noes: Councilmen: None
Absent: Mayor Anderson
RAMP ON CALIFORNIA STREET,1300 Block: -
Letter from Farnsworth Trading Post asked for permission to build a ramp
-at rear of the property on California Street. Councilman Swarts moved,
seconded by Councilman Buchea to grant permission for conttruction of
same. Voting was as follows:
Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Swarts and Haskell.
Noes: Councilmen: None
Absent: Mayor Anderson
CITY OF REDDING AND REDDIN G MOSQUITO ABATEMENT DISTRICT:
Agreement between the City of Redding and the nedding Mosquito Abatement
District was held at request of Civil Engineer Clair A. Hill.
As there was no fubhher business, the meeting was adjourned to 8:00 PI M.
Friday, July 31, 1947 by unanimous vote of all Councilmen present.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Anderson.
On roll -call the following Councilmen were present: Buchea, Dunlap,
Haskell, Swarts and Anderson.
This meeting was adjourned from Regular Meeting of July 21, 1947 to
hear the public's reaction in begardrtbathe purdhase of the Kutras
Tract property. The following persons were heard:
M. P. Howard in favor of the purchase for recreational purposes.
E. Fred Eastlund in favor of the purchase for future industrial property.
A.&. Bigelow not in favor of the purchase because of its assessessed
valuation to the City if it were subdivided; and considering the great
expense of park landscaping.
J. A. Given, Divil Engineer *'favir 6f the purchase under changes in the
conditions of the agreement.
Jgseph Alleck, Atty, in favor of the purchase for swimming & recreation land.
E. T. Berner, for self and Planning Commission: that same be purchased with
changes in condition of the agreement..
Carl A. Williams favored purchase because of location especially after new
Highway is built.
H. W. K. Wittner in favor of purchase if to be purchased for reasons othbr
than just fora swimming pool.
Vernon Selvester not in favor of purchase just for swimming pool, if lease
cannot be changed so that it can and will be used for other purposes, is
against purchase.
William G. Hill not in favor of purchase, should be put to a vote of the
people.
Mea. Joseph Alleck in favor of thepurchase for swimming pool.
explained tha t the water could not be purified, and
that the property is more valuable for other purposes rather than swiauidng.
Mayor Anderson covered correspondence on same pro and con.
H. T. Barnard and Chas Bull were if the opinion ti -.at purchase of same is
good investment.

RESOLUTION NO. 1498, RE: 1947-48 SALARIES:
Councilman Buchea moved, seconded by CounciLman Dunlap to adopt Resolution
No. 1498, establishing salaries for discal year 1947-48. Voting was as
follows:
Ayes: Councilmen: Buchea, Dunlap, Haskell, Swarts and Anderson
Noes: Councilmen: None

No. 1499, relating to interim license of the Redding Army Airfield.

PLANNING COMLISSION RIMOLUENDATION: Re: Dawe property:
Councilman Dunlap moved, seconded by Councilman Haskell to approve Planning
Commission recommendation that Pdziss Elizabeth G. Dawe, 1328 Magnolia Ave;
Redding,'Calif.. be allowed to builda second house on her property, desc. As:
Dakyn Add to Redding: S 80 ft of W 100.ft of Blk D. and S 50 ft of N 170
