Haskell, PhiL Hemsted, and Ivan Dunlap, 1�'aived fieadine oi' Minutes Councilman Haskell made a rnotion, seconded by Councilman Brennan to waive reading of ' the minuLes of the orevious meeting. Passed 'oy unaniMous vote. Water Level in Sacramento River Upon inquiry by the City Council, ldr. Har•ris of the Bureau of Reclamation told Uiem that with normal precipitation there would be a normal flow of water this year. He agreed that the City of Redding has first waLer rights. This came about when the A. C. -I. D. began r�epai:s on the gates of their canal 1'rom the Sacramento river and concern over lowering of Lhe water level might leave Redding with a shortage of tivater. To lower the suction purnps of the water systern �.vould be ef too :��uch er.pense to the City, and City Councilmen maintained that it is the duty of ttie Bureau of Reclamation to insure the City adequate water. �r:.Narris asked, the City Council to write Lfartin Blote, �ureau oF Reclaraation, Aegional Director, Old ?ost OfTice Building, Sacr•amento, Calit'oznia. As a member oi' the Botird ot Dir•ectors oI' the Hedding Mosquito District, Councilman Hemsted rnade a report of conditions of mosquito breeding places and asked cooperation wi.th 0. l°l. �urphy to combat them. City Attorney, Glenn D, Alevrton, vras instructed to write to the iiegional Director oi' the Bureau of Reclamation or the State o£ California Departrnent bf T'ublic Heaith for assistance. Favrver appeared to renew thei.r• petition on file to manage - the City - County Airdrome. 11�ey expect io conduct charter service, flight instruction; and said that airlines hase Redding chartered as a stop. The City Engineer vras instructed to check upon a sidewalk, curb, arxl gutter ,job, purportedly done on Candrick property for which they paid, but is on another party's property. , Si�n GP Cit,v Lot 7 - Honn Acidition Upon request of Joseph Runner, the City Council instructed City Attorney, G1enn D. Newton, to prepare a contract that he might erect a neon sign on the City's Lot 7 - Honn Addition to Redding i'or his Auto Court vriLh certain rights reserved to the City. , Street Si�n - Placer and L�a�nolia Streets Darrell Davis ot' the Shasta Dial asked for a street sign at Placer and 6�agnolia Streets and the Clerk is to inform Superintendent of Streets to check same. Fire Hydrants - Benton Tract � John Dockery informed the City Council that water pipes in the Benton Ti•act were 4" but he said that an old fire hydrant could be use�, Councilman Haskell made a motion, seconded by Councilman Hemsted, that if �lmer Junkans is willing to be resoor.sible for t'ie stand-by charge plus 10� for� outside users that a Cire hydrant be installed and maintained near his place of business; voting was as follows: AYF.S: Councilmen: Anderson, Brennan, Haskell, Heituted and Dunlap NOES: Councilmen: None � , ABSBNT: Councilmen: None A rei'und check of' �3225.71 electrical energy lrom P,G.&E, on Porxer Contract for August and September, 1945 was ��esented to the City Council. E. E. Dick, Electrical System Superintendent, was instructed �o study rates and report on reductions which would con£orm with' Citys reduction. New Fire Truck • A letter from the American LaFY�ance Foamite Corporation announced that the new� fire truct would ai•rive about November 11, 1945. . flosyuito District Councilman Hemsted reported that th ere are culverts, etc. which are in need of repair to help combat mosquitos. Councilman Anderson made a notion, seconded by Councilman Brennan to �ive Councilman Hemsted perrnission to have the culverts repaired.
