May 4. 1945 Meeting eras called to order by Mayor Dunlap On roll-call the Pollowing Councilmen vrere present: Anderson, Brennan, Buchea, Gronv,oldt, and Dunlap . It semns that dirt has heen d�ped on it over a hard top� and trucka have been getting atuck in':the straet. APter diacuesion, the probl� aas tumed over to Councilman Gronwoldt and hie Co�ittee to look in to the situation. • � ' Dam Fiouses • Mr. Generes, who lives at the Southern end of �4sldon avenue of the City appeared to protest Dam Houses being moved into his neighborhood. It �sas his opinion that they had been prohibited. The Building Inspector ia to check to see iP aryy houses have come into the City Rithout the house-mover having peimission and a Surity Bond to protect the City Prom aqy damages tLat might arise. Redding Haseball Club i�. Stanley DeForest, sa secretary oP The Redding Baseball Club appeared, and informed the City Council of the formation oP the Club, stated tYiat the Park is in good condition, and aeked about how the concesaion was to be handled. It. weis decided thetthe City Attorney ahould meet with Ira Shadwell and draw up a contract for the use oP tha Ball Park and concesaion to include liability insurance. Also informed the Council that he had acquired•a home-plate and toe plate Por $1�.51; and asked if by using these on the field, would the City want to o�vn them. The Council decided that if Lir. DeForest erould turn his bill in to the Pcirk Depnrtment Por Mr. Starm to okay the City Rould pay for the Home-plata and toe plate. Power--Sbasta Dam � Councilman Gronwoldt made a motion to accept the Contract of the Bureau oP Reclamation, Department of Interior to aell po�Ter to the City of Redding as it stands. Th1s motion cras seconded by Councilman Buchea. Voting �as as follons: l�yes: Councilmen: �chea, Gronnoldt Noes: Councilmen: Anderaon, Brennan, and Dunlap Absent: Councilmen: None Councilman Anderson made a motion, to accept contract mith the Bureau oP Reclamation Department: of Interior as drawn up by the City Attorney; especially as to Mr. Newton�s paragraph 10. This motion was seconded by Councilman Brennan. Sidecralk at Placer and l7illis Streets Judge Albert F. Ross appeared and asked that the City Eagineer, City dtty. Street Supt. inspect a dangerous condition in a piece of siderralk at Placer and Willis Streets; said that the Sidewalk is lower than the Street, and it is necessary for the people to use some crooden steps that were put in for temporary use at the time. Water Coolers Letter from Mrs. Zetzeche dated May jl, 1945 �s read protesting that the vater from the cooler in the Loop Inn was running onto her property. The Council asked that Mr. Saeltzer, Health OPficer, take care oP that and other auch problems in tocm caused by I7ater Coolers. , . Chamber af Ca�mmerce �, A letter from the Chamber' of Co�erce, dated 7une 1, 1j45�questing appropriation oY $1,2�j0;00. Councilman Gronrroldt made a motion aeconded by Councilman Buchea to appropriate $1,36�.00 to Chaaber of Co�erce Por last half 194[F'45• Passed by unanimous vote. Gravel Streeta A letter Prom Wi4helmina Nock dated Tune:l, 1945 requeating City to gravel Streets in Nock sub-divison vras referred to Councilman Gron�voldt, ' Chairman of Streeta Co�ittee. Lea�Sue oP Californis Cities After letter datad May 16, 1945 from Chester 0 Gatea wtis read- and discussed-7une 20, i945 �e agreed upon as the date of a neeting oP the League of CaliPornia Cities. Airport Improv�ent Mayor Dunlap reported that the Airport runway is in bad condition, and it was agreed thnt the City should improve it. Passed by unanimous' vote. � Hills Councilman Gronwoldt made a motion, seconded by Councilmun Buchea to pay the monthly bills as audited. Passed by unanimous vote. Junior Chamber of Coffiperce Councilman Anderson made a motion seconded by Councilman Brennan to grant the Junior Chamber of Coimnerce the park, concession and Pacilitiea over July 3rd and 4th, i945 aubject to proper amount oP Public Liability Inaurance.
