HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 1945-03-19y;8 Regular Meeting Council Chambers March 19, 1945 8:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Dunlap. Upon roll call the following Councilmen were present: Anderson, Brennan, Buchea, Gronwoldt and Dunlap. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved by unanimous vote ALLEY BLOCK 10 PARK SUBDIVISION A letter dated March 16, 1945 in regard to J. G. Bastain-Redding Public Market petition for abandoment of alley in block 10 Park Subdivision written by Carlton and Shadwell, was read stating that the Redding Public Market desires to withdraw its name from the petition. JOG IN DOZIER'S PROPERTY E. E. Dick, superintendent of the Electrical System, stated that the telephone company set a pole on Placer Street at a jog in Dozier's property between Olive and Walnut Streets and reported that if the City will set Dozier's fence back he will Deed a small portion of land to the City. Councilman Gronwoldt made a motion, seconded by Councilman Brennan for the City to move the fence and accept the Deed from Dozier. This was passed by unanimous vote. Q.c.-�se.f33G Leland Rose, from the Division of Highways, appeared to secure right of way from the City of Redding along Cypress Ave. to the Sacramento River. Councilman Brennan made a motion, seconded by Councilman Buchea to adopt `r Resolution #1336 authorizing execution on a contract with and a deed con- veying and dedicating to the State of California R/W for a public way for a strip of land of variable width embracin4rportions of lots 29, 30, and 31 of the Olivia Addition to City, race tract field and abutting streets with reserve for City pole line, water line and sewer line right of way. R. A. Saeltzer, Health Officer, presented a letter from Edward T. Ross, Public Health Officer, with a report on the eradication of sats in Redding. After discussion the matter was turned over to Councilman Brennan and Mr. Saeltzer to conduct a continued rat survey as they see fit. SIDEWALK HRADES A letter from H. H. Shuffleton, Jr. asking that sidwalk grades be established on tge Cq00 blopk on Market Street was read. The Council refered the letter to t ity Lngsneer to consider. POLICE DEPARTi.En Police Chief, Earl Sholes, reported that Elmer Nixon is subject to call in the draft and asked for an OK on Earl Linc€cum to take his place. In order to add another man to the Police Force, Councilman Brennan made a motion, seconded by Councilman Buchea to designate the Police Department stenographer to be used by all City Departments. The motion was.passed unanimously. Bill #319 ■ A letter from Senator Carter regarding Bill #319 was read by City Atty Newton asking what effect this would have on operation of health Department if cities '�- and counties participated in a health and sanitation set up; the state to provide trained men -for this kind of work. BILL HR-67A-AIRpo ns A letter from National Institute of Law Officers on Bill 1#n 674, the Federal Government supplying 50% of money on betterments of Airports on summarizing our airport needs, it was suggested that the city might add a hanger and administration building to our airport and Councilman Brennan was designated to assist the City :ltty in listing needs. w< State Retirement Svstem Atty Newton had State Employees Retirement System forms to fill out and Councilman Buchea made„a.motien, seconded by Councilman Brennan authorizing Mayor Dunlap to sign q4&fiat or survey. This was passed by unanimous vote of Council. Occupancy Zoninr, Ordinance #'3OA Councilman Buchea made a motion, seconded by Councilman Brennan to waive second reading and adopt Ordinance #304 on Occupancy Zoning. Voting was as follows: Ayes: Councilmen: Anderson, Brennan, Buchea, Gronwoldt and Dunlap Noes: Councilmen: None Absent: Councilmen: None City Atty Newton was asked to write to J. G. Bastain informing him of Ottonello's decision to withdraw from the petition to close N -S alley in Block 10, Park Subdivision. City Atty Newton had prepared and presented an Ordinance on City Employees Bonds that was held over for minor changes. An ordinance prepared for Rules and Regulations for Fire Department was presented but held over. As there was no further business the meeting was adjourned.
