Council Chambers
Lurch 5, 1945
Meeting was called to order by Mayor Dunlap. Upon roll call the following
councilmen were present: Anderson, Brennan, Buchem, Gronwoldt, and Dunlap.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.
Project Statement#14 -Dept 'of Public Torks :•phT,
R. A. Tramper of the Division of Highways presented a project statement
No. 14 dated February 26, 1945, to the City of Redding providing for
allocation and expenditure from State Highway Fund for expenditures to
be made during the ensuing biennum. Councilman Brennan made a motion,
seconded by Councilmen Buchea authorizing the Mayor to sign the Project
Statement No. 14 presented by the Director of Public Works. Voting was '

Abandon Portion - Division S+reet
Atty Ire Shadwell appeared asking Council to proceed with elosing of a
portion of Division Street; as the Palm Hotel has been occupying a portion
of it for the past 40 years as a recent survey has shorn. The public has
never used the street and ovmers of property adjoining have petitioned to
have it closed. The Council studied a map presented by City Engineer Geo.
L. Pearl; and will take the matter under advisement.
So. Market Street Yater Extension to
County Hospital
County Surveyor, Ernest Breuning, and Supervisor, 0. M. Turner, appeared to
discuss the County Hospital's tying onto the City %ter Main at the Shasta
Box Co. and before entering into a contract with the Construction Co. they
thought the City should enter into a contract with the County on water rates
and etc. The Pacific Constructors, Inc. will lead from the County's water
line about 700 ft. from the beginning and will contribute to the cost of the
jobo; and the County will maintain their water line and without maintenance
costs the City discussed the possibility of charging the County with standby
charges on fire hydrants and a meter rate on domestic use of water. Councilman
Buchea made a motion, seconded by Councilman Anderson to agree to furnish
water to the Shasta Co: Hospital and the Pacific Constructorip, Inc. and the
City Atty was authorized to negotiate with County to prepare an agreement
on terms and conditions mutual)y. satisfactory to both parties. Voting was as
follows:

George L. Peatl, City Engineer, was asked about 24" pipe to be used between .,e.'
the two city water reserviors. Be said that the price on pipe is $3.20 per
ft. F.o.B. job; that the job would amount to approximately $11,000.00 but
no price has been received from the contractor as yet. Councilmen Brennan
made a motion, seconded by Councilman Bushes to adopt a resolution declaring
this jbb an emergency; to waive calling for bids; and authorizing City Atty
Newton and Engineer Pearl to go ahead with negiotations of a contract. Votin g
was as follow:

City Sewer
City Engineer Pearl stated that City Sewer Plans are all laid out; but some
of the work is not completed. As the State of California demands that plans
are complete and accompany application for appropriation. The Council asked
Mr. Pearl -to (1) complete the sewer (4 disposal system plans(a) then take
up the parks and Gold Street Underpass as the text projects.
Reorganizing Planning Commission
Mayor Dunlap appointed the following persons to serve on the Planning Commission
in order to get reorganized and in shape to work on City Planning.

Approval of the above
commission appointed was given by unanimous assent.
Shasta Dam Houses
Discussion ensued on houses still being moped into Bedding from the Shasta Dam
Area. Councilman Brennan suggested that Mayor Dunlap appoint•a committee to
work with the Building Inspector in approving these permits, whereupon the
Mayor appointed the committee on Public Buildings to act in this capacity.
Shasta Dam Power
Asked if he had received any word from Mr. Carey or Mr. Byxbie on a contract
for power from the Shasta Dam., Atty G.D. Newton stated that he had not.
Councilman Brennan made a motion, seconded by Councilman Buchea that the City
Atty write to whomever was necessary to get what information he could. voting
was as follows:

Liberty St.- Between So. & Placer
A letter dated February 26, 1945, signed by Mrs. Donald Spoon, Frank W. Williams,
and harry W. Glover notifying the City Council that a dangerous condition
exists on South Street between East and Garden where there is an open ditch
_,• and an obstruction in'.the street, and asked that it be removed. Councilman
Buchea made a motion, secondaiby Councilman Anderson for the City Engineer to
locate the street and the City Atty to investigate taking steps to see that
Liberty Street at this place is made into a public way. Voting was as follows:

League of California Cities
Mayon Dunlap announced that the League of Californi Cities had been invited
to hold their next meeting in Redding - which will be in about three months.
American Red Cross
Councilman Buchea made a motion, seconded by Councilman Brennan to contribute
$1,000.00 to the American Red Cross. Voting was asefollows:

typewriters and an adding machine - one typewriter and the adding machine
to be used in City Clerk's Office. 8oting was as follows:
