- The ttieeting was called to order by &Iayor Au�ust H. Gronwoldt
and upon roll call by the City Clerk the following Council-
men were present:-Anderson, Buchea, Dunlap, Harrison and
Gronwoldt. � •
a Glenn D. Newton, City Attorney was al�oepresent.
The minutes of the meeting of Au�ust loth and the special
meeting of l�ugust jlst were read and approved.

�Nir. Phil Storm, S.upt. oP Streets inPorraed the Council that
he has baen unable to locate any equipment which would dig
sufPicient depth f or the Cypr.ess.Street sewer.

said fiscal year was a�proved by the f ollowir� vote:-

regarding jay walking in the City of Redding.
- � Cdest Coast Victory Carnival
T�r. .Earl Sholes Acting Chief of Police stated the management oP
�'-��� the:•West, Coast Victory Carnival �had contacted him by phone
for a permit to show in the City of Redding. After the
Council discussed the �:atter with 14ir. Sholes, the permit to
ehow in the City of Redding v�as refused by the follodving
vote•- �

A letter was received from �ir. Herman 1VTix asking Por. permission
for r.emoval. of s.ome l�..or 20 old .pear. or almond tr.ees, After
some discussion the Council granted permission t o.remove these �
trees provided ,they �vere replaced by others, by the following
vote:- �

A letter vuas received from the Shasta County vilar Finance -
Co�unitee regardin� advertising Por the 3rd 'aVar Loan Campaign .
The matter was referred to �Ir. �lbert E. Dick, Supt. of "
Electrical Department. - , . � -
Electrical 4��iring-Red Cross Rooms
b�. Elbert �. Dick stated t he Red Cross had contacted him re- - �
garding some vririn� which they would like the Gity to do in -
th e Red�Cross 800ms. The Council .instructed Mr. Dick to do �
the necessary wiring. . �

Iu�r. Phil Storm, Supt. of Streets recommended that the Shasta � -
motors Inco be granted permission to. install .a concrete ramp �
Prom California Street to their used car location at 1228. �
Calif ornia Strest. Permission was $ranted, it being understood .
that the Shasta �t[otors, Ine, bear all of the eapense of the � . -

Fermission was granted to the Disabled American Veterans, S�t.
P�Tilton Sobbe, Chapter No.14 Veterans Home California to conduct �
a campaign in Redding on Thursday, Friday and Saturday., October
2�, 29, �a 30� 1943 .

Councilman Anderson brought be�ore tne City Council the matte�
of auditing .the City Books, and aPter discussin; tne matter/some
length, �it was moved by Councilman Dunlap and seconded by Council-
man Buchea,ot,�ha�e�"linfred '�Vri�ht audit the books of the City of
-�( Reddin�/�rice was ok. Counciiman:Harrison moved to amend the
motion to the effect that whoever was hired should be a
certified public accountant9 wfiich w as seconded by Couneilman • .
.�nderson. City Attorney Newton informed the Council that the
ar�endment was in order anc3�.should be•�.voted on:first and upon,. ., , , .: , ... �
roll call Andersono Harrison and Buchea voted s'or the amend-
. ment and Gronwoldt and- Duniap voted against it.
Councilman "nderson then moved to lay the motion on the tabls and �-
then �vithdrew his��motion. On,motion.by Du.�lap and seconded by
