Gron�aoldt and upon roll call the following Councilmen were present:- Roscoe J. �rr� erson, Ivan :�. Dunlap, �"ym. Harrison and �u�ust H. Gron�A�old.t. �bsent:- B. P. Haskell � City Attorney�Glenn D. Newton was also present. The minutes of the regular meeting of April 5, 1943 and the Special meeting of April 9th, 1943 cvere read and approved. Sewer Survey . Iti;r. Geo. L. Pearl, City Engineer discussed �vith the City Council the sewer survey which he recently made on Cypress Avenue and. stated he had asked City 1�ttorney, Glenn Newton to cheek t he law to determine if the city could divid_e the work in small parts doing it by day labor rather than by calling for bins and submitting the �vork to contract. i�o action was t aken at t hi s time. Sewer Assessments :�-�r. J. �'d. Jatunn �ppeared before the City Council regarding the Sewer assessments which �nrere char�ed. a�ainst seven lots whic� she owns located , on South Court Street. The m�tter was referred to City .EnginePr, George L. Pearl. Coolin� Syster�s I�r. Saeltzer, Health Officer discussed the problem of water coolers and materials for installing them. Ivir. Saeltzer stated he had checked around and. he felt sure materials could be obtained for making the proper con- nections. City Attorney,�'Glenn D. I�?ewton wr�s instructed to prepare an ord.inar_ce which would prohibit residents from allovaine� water for their coolinb systems to d.rain upon the ground. Ci�y Code It was sug�ested by City Attorney, Glenn Ne��ton that the City Code be brought up to date and. that prices be obtained for doing the printin�, Deposit P. T. �c T. Co. A letter was read f rom the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company re- questing the �500:00 depo�sit w hich the City of Reddin� was holdin� be returned. This letter received the OK of the City Engineer, Geo. L. Pearl and as two years have lapsed since the work of resurfacin� the streets was completed t,he City Council ordered this deposit returned. Resolution �1261 Resolution �l?_61 approving agreement with Sout hern PaciPic Company co�t- cerning repair of certain street crossings in the City of Redding was read b�y City Attornsy Glenn D. Ne�Nton. The city to repai�r street crossings at the intersections of South, Placer, Yuba, Tehama and Shasta Streets with the main line of the railroad in the City of Redding. The Southern Pacific . . to p ay to the Citv of Redding �3,658.00. A m.otion was �nade by Councilman t�nderson and seconded by Councilman Dunlap that the resolutioa be adopted. On roll call voting was as follows: t�,yes:- Councilmen Anderson, Dunlap, Harrison and Gronwoldt. Noea: None Absent: Councilman Haskell �� � Resolution 1262 � Resolutior_ �1262 author.izin�; the city attorney to si�n consent to dismiss on condemnation suit by United States of America involving 1120 acres of land used for airport purposes w�s read by City Attorney Glenn D. Newton. A motion was made bg Councilman Dunlap and seconded by Councilman Har�ison that the resolution be ad.opted. On roll call voting was as f ollows: Ayes: Councilmen t�nd.erson, Dunlap, Harrison c� Gron�voldt. Noes Councilman None ' � Absent; Councilman Haskell � �Iar Saving Bonds The matter of purchasing war, savin�; bond.s came before the Council and after some discussion on this matter, a motion was made by Councilman Harrison and seconded b:y Councilman Dunlap that �20,000.00 �be invested in war savir�s bonds, sub�ect to the approval of the finance committee. On roll call �oting was as f ollows: � Ayes: Councilmen Anderson, � Dunlap, Harrison, & Gronwoldt. Noes Councilmen None � Absent: Councilman Haskell � Transfer of Funds A rnotion was made by Councilmsn Dunlap an d seconded by Councilman Harrison, that �25,000.00 be transferred from the Electric Department Fund to the General Fund and on roll call voting was as fo].lows: ' 1�yes: Cou�cilmen Anderson, Dunlap, Harrison, Gronwoldt, Noes: Councilman 1�one ' Absent Councilman Haskell r Leave of Absence John Balma John Balma, ChiefYof Police aaas granted a leave of absence to enter the hP Co,a.i.R a-G- armed Porces anc� appointed Earl Sholes detective sergeant to act as chieP during his absence.
