Regular 'r,eet ing Upon roll call by the City Clerk, the following councilmen were present: R. T. Anderson, Ivan A. Dunlap, Ray Lowry, Baldy Haskell: Absent: A. H. Gronivoldt. In the absence of Councilman Gronwoldt, Councilman Dunlap was appointed Mayor, pro -tem. Fire Department Fire Chief Klaukens submitted a report showing grass burning work during the past year. He was corranended on this report by the Council and it was the suggestion of Councilman Anderson that this grass burning program be engaged even more extensively during the coming year. I ns uranc e A letter from Clark Nye was read stating that he had arranged for a new average rate for thboCity of i,edding, and that there were return premiurls in the amount of $237.78 due the City. Legal Printing. Two bids were received in response for sealed bids covering legal printing. The Shasta Dial bid 400 per lawful inch for the first insertion and 200 per lawful square, for each subsequent insertion, for all legal printing capable of being printed weekly during the fiscal year 1942-1%3. The Redding Searchlight's bid for publication of lega.ls regizired i.in-:a daily newspaper 45¢ per square for the first insertion and 34 per each sub= sequent insertion; the publications of legal advertisements that can be published in a weekly newspaper, 300 per square for the first publication and 18� for each subsequent insertion. City Attorney Fewton recommended that the Council accept the lowest bid, that is, of the Record Searchlight. Councilman Lowry made a motion that this low bid be accepted. His motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson and on roll call, adopted by unanimous vote of F,ll Councilmen present. Aud it Peat, Marwick, Vitchell R. Co., Accountants and XLuditors submitted a bid for an examination of the records of the Cit for the two years ending Tune 30, 1042. Their fee would not exceed '"50.00. No action was taker.. Transfer of Funds Councilman Haskell made a motion that $20.,000 be transferred from the Electrical Department Fund to the General Fund. his motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson and on roll call motion carried by unanimous vote of all Councilmen present. Chamber of Commerce A letter from the Chamber of Com;:erce requesting 81250.00 donation. for the period ending Tune 30, 1842 was read by the Clerk. Councilman Anderson made a motion that this donation be rude. His motion was seconded by Councilman Haskell and on roll call adopted by unanimous vote of all Councilmen present. Resolution No 1240 A resolution was introduced extending lease No C6ca-67A to the United States for a period of one year for the purpose of rnaintaining an air way on Lot 2 R:, 3 Block 2, Shastaview Addition to the City of Redding. This resolution was to extend lease for a period of one year from Tuly 1, 1942 for an annual rental of one dollar per year. Councilman Haskell made a motion that this resolution. be adopted. His motion was seconded by Councilman Lowry and on roll call this resolution was adopted by unanimous vote of all Councilmen present. Police Department Councilman Haskell sug_°ested that the Police nepartment inaugurate a. work gang, and use the habitual drunks and vags for work or, the streets and parks. This suggestion met with the s-Inction of the entire Council present. Resolution, .No.--1241- A No.--124.1. A resolution authorizing the Treasurer to deposit deductions from the salaries of employees and officers of the City of Redding for the purchase of United States War Bonds or_Stamps in a special account, was introduced by the City (attorney. Councilman Haskell made a motion that this resolution be adopted. It was seconded by Councilimin Anderson and passed by vote of all Councilmen present. Public Liabili t,.r Insurance A letter was read from Glenn D. Newton for the City, expressing an opinion on the liability of the City of Redding for injuries resulting from the dangerous and defective conditions of sidewalks and streets for negligence of the officers of the City with reference to the same resulting in injuries to persons.
