Upon roll call b,;= the city clerk, the following councilmen were present: R. T. Anderson, I. A. Dunlap, B. P. Haskell, R. J. Lowry, A. H. Gronwaldt City Attorney Gl@nn D. Newton wrs present. Recreation Comii}ission A letter was read 'from E. F. Winslow Relief Corp No. 127,, signed by Mrs.. Louise Pbhrson, expressing the sanction of that body with the plan of the .-t..,.r.. ,. Council for a Recreation procxam for our city. Leave of Absence, Vii. K. Adams. A letter dated May 13, 1042 from W. K. Adams, City Engineer stating that due to the fact that he had been called to active duty in the U. S. Naval Reserve at Washington, he requested a leave of absence from the duties;of City Engineer of the. City of Redding for the duration of the present' emergency. Upon armotion by Councilman Haskell, seconded by Councilman Dunlap, this leave of absence was granted. Councilman Haskell made -6 motion that Wilbur Grant of the Fire Department and W. K. Adams, City .6ngineer be paid for vacation leave fror: May 16 to May 31. This motion was seconded by Councilman Dunlap, and on roll call, motion was adoped by unanimous vote. Health Officer George Pearl, recently appointed Secretary of the newly organized Health Board, requested that the salary of 4. A. Saeltzer be raised to $100 per month, as health officer of the City of Redding. Councilm€;n Anderson made a motion that the City Attorney prepare a salary resolution putting this salary increase into effect as of May 18, 1942. His motion was seconded by Councilman Haskell and on roll call, adopted by unanimous vote. Sugar Rationing. Councilman Haskell made a motion that George Pearl, acting City Engineer, be allowed to employ a file clerk for a period of two weeks at a salary of not more than 1°4:00 per day- for the purpose of filing sugar rationing cards. This motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson and on roll call, passed by unanimous vote. RESOLUTION 1239 A resolution voicing the appreciation of the City Council to 4. K. Adams on the manner in which he had conducted the office of City Engineer and Superintendent of Streets, was read by the City Clerk. Councilman Haskell made a motion that this resolution be adopted. The motion was seconded by Councilman Dunlap and on roll call, resolution was adopted by unanimous vote. There being no further business, the meeting vias duly adjourned. Regular Meeting Upon roll call by the City Clerk, the following councilmen were present. R. J. Anderson, I. A. Dunlap, B P. Haskell, R. J. Lowry, A. B. Gronwoldt. City Attorney Glenn D. Newton was present. Payment of Bills Councilman -Dunlap made a motion that the monthly bills be paid after being audited by the finance committee. His motion was seconded by Councilman Haskell, and on roll call passed by unanimous vote. Poundmaster Councilman Haskell made a motion that the position of Poundmaster be declared vacant as of June 1, 1%2. His motion was seconded by Councilman Haskell, and on roll call passed by unanimous vote. Rationing Board Acting City Engineer George Pearl appeared before the Council and requested information relative to what proportion of expense of the rationing board was to be borne by Shasta County. It was suggested by the Council that this matter be taken up with the Board of Supervisors, by Pqr. Pearl and Councilman Anderson. Transfer of Funds Councilman Haskell rade a motion that $600 be transferred from the Electrical Fund to the Municipal Light and Power Bond. Fund. His motion was seconded by Councilman Lowry and on roll call motion adopted by unanimous vote. Ordinance ,287 Liquified Petroleum Gases. An amended Ordinance correcting certain parts of the existing Liquified Petroleum Gas Ordinance was introduced by the City Attorney. The purpose of this proposed ordinance leas to correct certain de, fects in the existing ordinance. Councilman Haskell asked Fire Chief Klaukens if this proposed ordinance as ammended met with his approval. Fie was informed by the Fire Chief that it did. This proposed ordinance was then read by the City Attorney. Ordinance ,;288 Trailer. A proposed trailer ordinance was introduced by City Attorney, Glenn D. Tdewton, who explained its purpose and intent. Councilisan Lowry made a motion that the detailed reading; of this ordinance be waived -.nd his motion was seconded by Councilman Haskell and on roll call pasted by unanimous vote. City Engineer Pearl requested permission of the Council to buy 2400 sq. ft. of second hand 26 gauge corrugated irea at a price of 52-d per sq ft. toe was instructed to make this purchase. Police Department Police Chief h',lma requested permission of the Council to employ Paul Lane to replace Policeman Hickey, resigned. pis request was approved by the Council. Poundmaster Councilman Anderson suggested that the Chief of Police be given the authority to hi -.---e a Poundmaster ,and that the Poundmaster work under his supervision.
