HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - City Council - 1942-05-04Regular Meeting Redding, California. May 4,1942- 8 Pm. On roll call by the City Clerk, the following Councilmen were present: R.J. Anderson, IAEA. Dunlap, B.P. Haskell, R.J. Lowry, A.R. Gronwoldt. City Attorney Glenn D. Newton was present. Health officer. Jackson Price addressed the City Council relative to the seeming necessity of the appointment of a physicial as health officer,or assistant health officer, in order that some action could be taken for prevention of the spread of contagious diseases. Sie t Stephens, Hr. H.T. Hinman, Clyde Rann, Mrs. Isabel Bliss R.N. also spoke at length on the necessary ` appointment aP),suhh a Department Head: Councilman Haskell made a motion that Dr. H.T. HinAfman, George Pearl, Clyde Rann, Siebert Sfephens, Dr. R.J. Tuche be appointgd as a committee to meet with the Health Officer, for the purpose of formulating and recommending a plan in accordance with the request of Jackson Price and others; his motion was seconddd by Council man Dunlap, and on roll call adopted by unanimous vote. Thos Parkin invited the Council as a body to be present at the luncheon of the Co- ordinating Council friday noon, next. Payment of Monthly Bills. Councilman Haskell made a motion that the monthly bills be paid after audit by the Finance Committee, his motion was seconded by Councilman Dunlap, and on roll call motion carried by unanimous consent. U.S•0. Dr. R.J.­Tuche� appeared before -the Couhcil, and stated that he had been promised a frame building, labor to remove and re -erect same, and desired the permission of the Council to put this building on the vacant lot in rear of the Veterans Mem-. orial Hall, building to be used by the U.S.C. City Attorney Newton was directed to write to the Board of Fire Underwriters to see if such a building could be erected on this property as an emergency war measure. Ordinance No. 28k_ An ordnance emending article I of Chapter III of part IV of the Yiunicipal code of the City of Redding involving regulations of Traffic; specially amending Sections 1302, 1304, 1305, 1314 131', 1318,.1324,1325, and 1328 of said code and adding herto 13 new sections Numbered 1331 to 1344 inclusive, received its second appearanee. Councilman Lowry made a motion that the detqiled reading of this ordiname be `eived; his motion was secondjd by Councilman Dunlap, and on roll call, motion carried by unanimous vote: Councilman Dunlap made a motion that this ordinance be adopted; his motion wks saconded by Councilman Haskell, and on roll call voting was as follows: Ayes; I.A.Lunle p, B.P. Haskell, R.J. Lowry, S.H. Gronwoldt. Eresent but not voting: R.J- - idersow. A copy of this ordinance given to the ShLsta Dail for publication. Sale of Fireworks. A letter from Culbert L. Olson, dated Apl 6,1942 was read in which he requested all Chiefs of Fire departments to forego the issuance of permits to sell fireworks during the present emergency. Councilman Haskell made a motion that no permits to sell fireworks during the present emergency be issued, his motion was seconded by Councilman Haskell, and on roll call motion carried by unanimous :'vote. Petition re opening of Veda Street. A jetiton was read re:._uesting to make passable one half block of Veda street between Willard and Spruce street. This petition was signed by residents -hear:=nof adjoining Veda street. This petition was referred to the City Engineer for his invest- igation and recommendeidion. Police. Matron. An application was read from Mrs. w.L. Dimmick for the position as matron at the Municipal Swimming Pool. Councilman Dunlap made a motion that this application be accepted subject to the usual conditions, his motion seconded by Councilman Lowry, and on roll call, mottion adopted by unanimous vote. Assistant City Engineer George Pearl requested that some action be taken reistive to conjested condition in the engineers office. He was in -formed that this matter wqs under survey at the present time, and that some decision would be reached shortly: There being no further business, the meeting was duly adjourned.
