Dunlap, B;P. t'askell, RJ.Lowry, C.A. Williams, A.H. Gronwoldt. City Attorney Glenn D• 'Iewton was present. In accordance with. the -provisions of Section 991`,: of the Election Code of the State of California, the governing body of the City met to canvass the returns of the.Municipal Election held on April 14,1942, and to install the newly elected officers. Resolution No. 1237. Resolution declaring canvass of returns and result of general municipal election held April 14,1942, and such matter pertaining therato as required by sections 9918 and 9919 of the election code of California including initiative measure sub- mitted to the voters. Whereas, pursuant to law, a general municipal election was held in said City of Redding on the 14th day of April, 1942, for the purpose o_~, electing three councilmen full term, and two councilmen: short term; and; Whereas, an initiative measure designating pr9position No 1, as dollo ws: 'Troposition No 1. Shall pr oposed initiative ordinance amending Section 1309 of the T;�lunicipel Code of the City of Redding,and restricting parallel parking to the following streets;(1) Market Street from the south line of the City Limits to:--andeincluding Riverside Drive to the former state highway bridge crossing the Sacramento River (2) street known as Free Bridge Rotel from IMarket Street easterly to the City Limits; (3) .Eureka Way from Market street to the west boundary of the City of Redding; and; repealing all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict therwith, be adopted" was likewise submitted to the vot- ers of said election and consolidated therwith and as provided by law; Whereas, a notice of said general election and the consolidation therwith of said prop- osition No. 1 was given and published in all respects as provided by law; uVhereas, for the purpose of said municipal election,siad City of Redding was divided in nine election preeinc�s as follows, to -wit: Precincts 1,2,3,4,4a,5,6,7 and 8, q and Whereas, it appears that said municipal election duly held in accordance with law on the 14th day of April,194.2, as aforesaid, and that the polls for said election were kept open during the time required by law and that said election was held and conducted and the votes tharat received and canvassed and, the returns therof ascertained, determined and decalred, all as provided'by the laws of tie State of California; and, Whereas, on this day, tb=wit; Tuesday, the 21st day of April,1942, at the hour cf 8 PM the Council of the City, of Redding met at its usual place of meeting and has canvassed the returns of said municipal election as required ky law, and, the result of said canvass is found to be as hereinafter stated and set forth. It is herepy resolved, determined and declared by the Council of the City of Redding as follows: 1. Thqt each and all of the matters hereinabove recited are hereby found and determined to be true. 2. That the results of said municipal election for the election of officers of.. said municip- ality are hereby declared to be as follows. That August Ii. Gronwoldt was elected to the ofice of Councilman of said City of Redding for the full term of four years. That Ray J. Lowry was elected to the office of Councilman of the ;.said City of Redding for the full term of four years. - That Roscoe J. Anderson wEs elected to the office of Councilman of said City of Redding for the full term of four years. R t�k6 That Ivan A. Dunlap was elected. to the office of Councilman of said City of Redding for a term of two years. That Broderick .. Haskell was elected to the office of said City of Redding for a term of two years. 3. That the City Clerk of said City is hereby ordered and directed to im-lediately sign and deliver a Certificate of Election in due -form to each of the persons herein declared elected to office in said City. 6. Vote 8 2 6 7. -that -the total number of votes cast at s id municipal election upon said proposition was 1101 votes; thatthe nir:ber of votes cast therat in favor of said proposition was 53", votes; that the number of votes cast therat againf:t said proposition was 56C votes; that no ballots were spoiled and not counted; that a majority of the votes cast was against the proposition -,and said proposition was not carried. It is hereby further resolved that the City Clerk of the City of Redding is hereby in- stricted to enter this resolution on the minutes of this Council as a statement cf the re- sult -of said election as required by Sections 9918 and 9919 of the Election Code of the State of Califcrnia. The foregoing resolution was presented to and adopted by the City Council of the City of Redding, County of Shasta, State of California, at a regular adjourned meeting of said Council held on the 21st day of April,1942 by the following votes: Ayes: Councilman.: Gronwoldt, Lowry, Dunlap, Haskell and �;illiams. Noss: None Absent: none. Recreation Commission. Fern Ambrose, Supervisor of Redding Recreation Center, appeared before the (Founcil, and informed that body that the commission was to be abandoned the first of May in accordance with inst Nctions from the war department.He presented the council with a proposed plan for continuance of the work of the Recreation Center, together with his recommended budget. No action was taken. 4 Resolution No -1238. A resolution accepting dded of Gift from Aillean Lucille Friel for right of way was read by the City Attorney.. Councilman Dunlap made a motion that this resolution be adopted; his motion was seconded by Councilman Anderson, and on roll call resolution adopted by unanimous vote. Garden Olivia Subdivision Sewer. City Engineer Adams informed the Co-aucil that before resolution No 4. with was to proceed with the fo enation of the garden Olivia Sewer District, it would be necessary to receive the snactiou of the war Production Board before any construction of work to cost in excess of $5,000.00 could be started: The Council directed the City Engineer to take the matter of this sewer construction up with the WPB and find out what could be done regarding this project. Election of Mayor.. Councilman Dunlap made a i2otion that Councilman Gronvoldt be appointed mayor of the City of Redding; his motion was seconded, by Councilman Haskell,on roll call motionwas unanimous¢ ly carried.
