June 2, 1941. 8 ­F�d Ups: n roll call bylthe City Clerk, the following Councilmen were present: Brodie Haskell, C.V. Hill, A.H. (Ironwoldt, C.A. Williams. Absent: Wm. B. henzel. The following city oVficials were present: City Attorney Newton, Engineer Adams, Chief Kalukens) Chief Riley, Treasurer Souza, Judge Stimmel, Superintendent Dick. Monthly Bills. After approval of monthly bills by the finance Committee, Council- man dill made a motion that these bills be paid, seconded by Council- man Williams, and approved by unanimous vote of all councilmen present. Ressitgnation of mayor m-nzel. A letter from Wm. B. Menzel was read, in which he tendered his resig- nation as a member_ of the City Council of the City of Redding to become effective dune 2,1941. Upon a motion by Co__ncilman Hill, seconded by Councilman Haskell, this regiggnation was accepted by unanimous vote. .H.Gronwoldt Appointed_ Mayor. Upon a motion by Councilman hill, seconded by Councilman Haskell and, passed by unanimous vote, Councilman Gronwoldt was appointed Mayor of the City of Redding. Clearing of Shasta Resevoir. A letter dayed Lay 21,1941 from Ralph Lowry, Construction Engineer, Bureau of Reclamation, was introduced, which letter was in answer to Resolution No. 1121 requesting that the area to be subnherged in the Shasta respvoir be cleared. In this letter ijr. Lowry submitted the reasons why it was not considered fesible for this area to be cleared by the Bureau. Detail reading of this letter was not made, as same had been publicised previously. Ordinance N 279 . An ordinance amending Section 130? of the Lunicipal Code of the City of Redding relating to Parallel ParkinE received its second reading. Upon a motion by Councilman Haskell, seconded by Council- man Williams, this ordinance was adopted by unanimous vote. A copy of this ordinance given to a representative of the Shasta Dial for publication in accordance with legal re.._;uLrements. Mo nthil jRe port s Reports from city department heads were filed with the City Clerk. Transfer of funds. Upon a motion by councilman Hill, seconded by Councilman Williams, and pasted by unanimous vote, 415,000.00 was orde2ed transferred from the Electric Department Fund to the General Fund. A notice of intention to renew lease for Fan harker by the Civil {leroueutics Administration from Duly 1,1941 to June 30,1942 at an annual rental of 41.00 per annum, Area 0.09 acres, was read by the City Clerk. Upon a motion by Councilman Hill, seconded by Councilman Haskell, .and approved by unanimous vote, this tntention to renew said lease was sanctioned by the Council. 6/2/41 A . The City Clerk was directed to bring this matter up at a later meeting. Naval Reserve Enlistment. .tiletter dated Lay i,;4 -,.L941_-1 from 36 Reynolds, Commander, U.S. Navy was read in which he requested the cooperation of the City in I enlistinE 35,000 additional men in the Naval Reserve. This matter Thad previously been handled by the local newspapers, and no other action taken at this meeting. Acific was & Electric A communication dated May 26,19 41 from the P G & E acceptins the gas franchise under ordinance No. 278 of May 14,1941 was read. Carnival Show, Permit. A request for permission to shov in Redding from June 17 to 22,1041 was received from the West Coast Circus Shows. Upon a motion by Councilman 01liams, seconded by Councilman Hill, and approved by unanimous vote, this permit to show in Redding was declined, and the City Clerk was instructed to so notify the West Coast Circus. III Affidavit of Publication. An affidavit of publication of notice of intention to circaiate an initiative petition to the City Councilof the City of 42ding, entitled "An ordinwn-oe ariienidir-,E sucuion 1300 of the municipal code of the City of Redding relating to parallel parking, was read by the City Clerk. No action was taken. Annual inventories. By unanimous approval of the Council, the Cioy Clerk was directed to advise each and every City Official of the City of Redding, that it would be necessary that these officials furnish to the Clerk, not later than July lst of each year, a physical inventories of all properties of the City of Redding, for which they are accountable. Bu, deet . The City Clerk was directed to notify all department heads budgets for their department must be submitted by June 15,1941. United Service Organizations. I; accordance with a recent"re,uest of the regional representative of the United Service Organization, Mr. J.V. Stanton was unanimously appointed by the City Council as local chairman of this organization, and the City Clerk was directed to so notify him, also to so notify USO Headquarters in the Empire State Building, New York City.
