Upon roll call by the City Clerk the follovring Councilmen were present:- Councilmen A, E. Frazier, A, H. Gronwoldt , C. V. Hill, A, C. Thatcher and +�illiam B. A,2enzel. City Attorney Glenn B. Newton was present. �oy A. �Jells, Federal Meteorologist , appeared before the City Council and stated tnat certain repairs were needed at the 6Veather }3ureau. His request � concerning these r.epairs was referred to the Building Corr�,ittee to cletermine �epairs neces�ary and to instruct City Fngineer W. K. �dains to make these repairs. Repuest.For Sewer. 14�r. Schroch appeared before tY� City Council in behalf of the resideuts of the southwest corner o� the City to determine if it wauld be possible to inc].ude certain properties in the Park Boardr�an sewer assessment district to provide sewer disposal facilities for the properties. This zratter was referred to City �ttorney Glenn B. Newton. Oil In The Streets. :� request was made to the City Council that certain streets in the Park su�division be oiled on account of the dust. Upon a motion by Councilman Fra�ier, seconded by Councilman Gron�oldt, tYie Street Committee wae instructed to confer v�ith City Engineer Adams to take t�e necessary steps relative to oilin� theee streets. � Junior Cham�er Of Corcar�erce. Siebert Stephens appeared �efare the City Co�ancil in behalf of the Junior Chan�ber oi' Cotpmerce requesting an appropriation of �450 to cover t11e 1939 Reddin� re�atta also requeatin� �500 to be allotted for the 1941 regatta to be ueld next year. This request reas reierred to City Attorney Ne�vton for his opinion as to the le�ality of this request. Transfer Of Funds. IIpon a motion by Councilrnan Gronvaoldt , secon�ed by Councilman Fiill, �15,000 was ordered t�arisferred Prom the Electric I�partrnent Fund to the General Fund. Blue Gravel ���in�; . A letter fror� du�ust Casino together wi�h a cor�tract coveri:�� a change in lease of the Blue Gravel I�line by the city was reierred to City Attarney Newton. Iron Lun�. Upon a motion bq CouncilrQan Thatcner, seconded by Councilmari Hill, the City Council appropriatad in principal �25U as aid in the purchase of an iron lung- the details of' its purcYiase , location, operation to be worked out at a later date. Installation Of Culvert. A lettor was read f"rom L. C. Smith dated Au�;ust 29 , 1940 in w'rtich he agreed to � install a culvert on Taylor �treet if the Ci�ty would f`urnish tlie culvert, was re�erred to the Street Committee for inves�i�ation. Reddin� Strin� Enaemble. A letter �v�s read i'rom Wilhelmina Noc�s dated Au�;ust 20 , 1940 requestin� an apnropriation of �75 for ti�e purpose of seiiding the r�edding String Ensemble 3 �� � � at . A}` � #'' � - �••�' to the Golden Gate International Exposition on Sept�caber 8 ar�d to particip3te ' in the pro�rar,1 at the State rair in Sacramento on 5eptember 9: Upon a aiotion by Councilr�sn. Hill, seco:�ded by Councilman Gronwoldt this appropriation was passed by unani�ous vote. This appropriation �as so ordered. Ordinance P�umber 268. An ordinance addin, to the I1�:unicipal Co�e of the City of Hed�ain� a new article relative to the stora�e and handling of liquif ied petroletun �;ases was introduced for a second readi�ig. Upon a motian by Councilman Hill, seconded by Councilman Gronwoldt , tiie detailed readin� of this ordinance was ��aived. Upon a �motion by Councilman Hill, seconded by Councilrnan Thatcher, this ordinance was adopted by unaxii;nous vote. ' Tax Rate. Upon a �iotiou by Councilman fiill , seconded oy Councilman Thateher , a uiotion was introd�?ced to instruct City �,ttorney Glenn B. Nev�ton to prepare the necessary resolutios� fixir�; the tax rate for 1940-41 at.�1.00 per �100 of assessed valu- ation. Councilmen voted as f ollows:- Ayes- Hill, Thatcher, Ajienzel. Noes- Frazier, Gronwoldt. Tn.ere bein� no further business the Council adjourned until tlie next regular meeting Septesnber 3, 1940 at 8 o'clock p. m.
