Upon roll call by the City Clerk the following Councilmen were present: - Councilmen A. E. Frazier, A. H. Gronwoldt, C. V. Hill, A. C. Thatcher and William B. Menzel. Absent:- Councilmen None. City Attorney Glenna. Newton was present. Agreement Made For Telephone Line. of the State Forestry Division District Manger J. A. Graves/presented the Council with form agreements, maps of the road to be followed over the city streets in the service of the telephone line from the west into his headquarters at the City Farm. Councilman Gronwoldt motioned that this agreement be accepted which motion was seconded by A. C. Thatcher, said :,lotion being carried by unaminous vote. Sale of City Property. 0. Scrimshire appeared before the Council to ask if the city would con- sider selling lots 3 and 4, block 12, Shasta,subdivision. After the discussion by MT. Scrimshire and Dr. Dozier, this matter was referred to the Aviation Committee for their consideration and Er. Scrimshire and Dr. Dozier were advised that they would be notified when a decision had been reached. Water Petition, Highland Addition. Pers. ',lar:;aret Rowberry appeared before the Council and referred to a petition she had filet'_ a year ago requesting that the Municipal Water System be extended into the Highland Addition in west ReddinE. She stated that twenty-two residences inside the city limits and twenty outside the city limits could be served. City 'Engineer A. K. Adams estimated the cost of this extension would be $4000 within the city, and $6000 out- side the municipal limits. The ultimate decision of the Council was that the return from this extension would not justify the expenditure. Petition For. Sewers. Carl E. IGieske presented a petition signed by the property owners in the Olivia addition to the city of Redding requesting that the council mane the necessary investigation to deterui_ne the advisibility of construction of a system of sanitary sewers under the 1911 Assessment District Act in the area of the Olivia addition. Upon a Motion by Councilman Hill, seconded by Councilman Thatcher, the city en;ineer and city clerk were di- rected to prepare necessary papers under the Street Improvement Act of 1911 and 1931. Bequest for Use Of Courtroom. Judge Albert F. Ross, judge .of Superior Court, requested and received permission from the City Council for the use of the Council Chambers on June 5, 1940. Agreement For Assignment Of Relief ':Workers. An agreement was read between the City of Redding, Redding, California and the State relief Administration for assi,-,irlment of relief workers. i:'ris project was to be cleaning of city parks of hed6ing , doing general park and storm sewer ;work and other jobs of municipal improvement. Said work to come under the supervision of William Adams, City Engineer. Motion was made by Councilman Hilt and seconded by Councilnnn Gronwoldt that this aEree- ,lent be executed, said motion being passed unaT';':i nously. IVlonthl.y Claims. The regular monthly claims were audited and approved by the Finance Committee and warrants ordered drawn to cover same. Bids For Legal Printinc. Lease To The Civil Aeronautics Authority. A lease was-ralited by the City Council to the Civil AeronaUtics Authority, 6th Region, 1508 Fourth Street, Santa '_ilonica, California at the annual rate of one dollar for lots 2 and 3 of block 2 Shasta View addition to the City of Reddin:- whereby filed at Shasta County Eiecorder` s Office. A preliminary anno uric eme nt of the sixteenth census return of the Cit; of Redding, Coun-ty of Shasta, State of Califor-nia was read showin the population of the City of Redding, County of Shasta, State of California as shown by preliminarl count of the sixteenth census tar::en as in April 1, 1940 is 8,077 as compared with 4,188 on April 1, 1930.
