Council Chambers, Redding, California, May 3, 1940, 1:30 p.m.
A special meeting was called by Mayor I::enzel for 1:30 P. m. May 3, 1940
for the following purpose towit:
The investigation of the Police Department of the City of Redding.
The meeting was called to order at 1:30. Upon roll call by the City Clerk
the following Councilmen were present towit: Frazier, Hill, Thatcher and ivienzel.
Absent, Gronwoldt. The City Attorney Glenn D. Newton was4:�present.
li This meeting was called for the purpose of investigating a report to the
effect that officers Sholes and Hutchinson had unwarrantedly beaten a prisoner.
All testimony relative to evidence given in this case was recorded by Thomas
Parkin, Shasta County Court Reporter who informed the Council that these notes
of his erre kept as official records for ten years, consequently the details
covering this special investigation have been omitted from the minutes of this
special meeting.
The meeting was adjourned to 10 o'clock a. m. May 4, 1940.
