The minutes o£ the meeting of September 7th, 1948 were approved as read. STREET LIGHT BTJ^17'E STREET AT AI,A�OI�TD Njr. Harol� .Pa.lmer, of 2630 Butte Street, appeared beforo the City Council regarding a street light at the corner oF Butte and Almond Streets. t�!r. �Palmer stated that the Ki�vanis Club had built a club house near this locam tion for a Boy Scout Troup, sponsored by their club, and it was a very dark corner, also many residents i.n and around this area signed a petition, .whieh Mr. �almer also filed with the City Cler�.. After beir� discussed with those members of the City Council present and City �iana�;er Storm, it was referred to Mr. Storm to speed the erection of a 1i�;ht at this corner. GARDEN AVENUE - SOjJTL-t STRE;ET 14ts�. R. N. Enger of 1049 �incoln Straet, appeared with severa.l residents of that area before the City Council to see what could be done to have Garden �Avenue cut through to South 5treet, siving many residents of this area a better a.ccess to town and a shorter clistance to travel than by going around South �ast Street. I�r. Enger also spoke regarding the steep hill, on South St., in the tvrel�e hundred block, st�ting he thought it was dangerous to those tr�veling on it, as vwell as school child.ren, v,rho might be going to school this wa.y, and something should be done to make this street more desirsble for •those traveling it. The following residonts also expressed their opir_ions : Mr. D. S. Kennedy, 843 Continent�.l Street and Nr. L. �. Scott of 1213 South St. Mr. Frank f'lummer sta.ted the street in f'ront of his place needed gravel badly and would appreciate any-rhing that could be done. Pdr. Fred Eastland s�oke steting the Planning �ommission had approved all these changes and referred these rasidents to the City Council for further action, �Sembers o£ the City Council and City B�Ianager Storm discussed this matter with trose residents present, stating these ch�.nges were difficult to d.o at the present time due to shortage of equipment and that gravel had been put on the streets by the City to relieve the muddy condition and keep cars from bogging down. City gf,ana�er Storm at�ted the streets would. be torn up again v�rhen the new sewer system was put in and when it was completed, the streets would be put in good cor_dition. Mr. Storm also s�sted Garden �venue would be cut through to South Street in the near future� prosiding deec3s are received, accepted and approved by the City of Redding. SHASTA VIEY�I - O�K RIDGE STIBDIV"ISION Laurencs Carr, a resident of Shasta View Subdivision, appeared before the Council regarding �n entrance to the Shasta Vietiv and Oak Ridge Subdivisions, statin�; the district on ;1�Gagnolia l�venue, off Placer, is gnrov0.ng fast with new homes and the only entrance at the present ti.m�e is around the Airport. �r. Carr stated this condition is similar to other stfbdiv.isions and asked the City Couneil to give consideration to some other route to entY2.these subdivisions. Iuir. harry Bach- told also spoke on this matter and he knew it to be recommendeo by the Flanning Cor,imission. A' motion v�r�.s made by Councilman Buchea, seconded by Councilman �orrison, that the City Engineer make a survey and report back at the next meeting. "' Absent: Coun.eilmen: Anderson STORI�2 DRAINS City �anager Storm requested permission to e.dQertise for bids to install larger storm drains in the. alley betvreen �Iarket and Pine Streets and extending £rom Sha.sta Street to Placer Street, and af'ter discussing this matter with the City Council, a motion was made by Councilman �nthony, seconded by �our.cilman Buchea, tha.t this request be grented. Storm stated this was part of the bond issize voted by the people some time back. Af'ter discussing this rcatt�r, a motion was made by Councilman Buchea, seconded by Councilman Anthony, that this requFst be granted. LUDWIG City I�anager Storm stated the complaint received f�om Mr. Alfred A: Ludwig, regarding Freightvrays trucks crossing ovar Railroad A4enue to Sonoma Avenue, also cutting aeross right of �ay on Court Street, has been worked out satisfactorily and no action would be taken at this time. ROB�RT SCHOLZ - ELECTRIC CF�ARGES BOOSTER PI]MP City P�a.nager Storm stated he had recaived a request frori Robert Scholz to charge customers the electric charges on the booster pump used to pump water to homes in the Redding .Heights Subdivision �xtd after being discussed by the City Counc3l, it w�s decided no �ction should be taken a.t this time, 1t�RCY HOS PIT�L BLJILDII�TG FUND CAA�TP��IGN j�es, %�h�� , City �a.na�er Storm stated he had received a letter from the Chairman of the N:ercy xospital Builcling Campaign Commit;tee requesting the City Couneil to adopt a resolution supporting the Building F�.ind Campaign. A motion was _ made by Councilman Buchea, seconded by Couneilman PSorrison, that this resolution be adopted. Earl Lincecum, a former member of the Redding Police Department, stating that he had passed with the highest credit of sny one taking the examination for a poliQe officer, ar_d had been refused a position by City 1�Zanager Storm. At this time Acting I��;a3�or swarts sug�ested that this matter be taken up with the proper authorities and Gouncilman l�fiorrison. The poliee committee, with interested parties, will arrange for a meeting.
