M. . � � � The meeting was called to order by Mayor Williams and upon roll call the following councilmen were present: Anthony, Hoiyfield, Simons, Smith and Williams. City Attorney Cibula was also present. Values�- Pacific Fire Rating S.ureau Standards. An additional $6_9, 315.:00 additional fire insurance would be recomrnended of which appxoximateiy $8, 400. 00 would be on the n:ew hangars at the B enton Airport. ` � ` � M.ayor Williams informed Mr. Oxley a survey was. being undertaken by the Shasta Gounty Insurance Association and suggested no action be taken at tliis time. Mr. Oxley suggested a firm of appraisers be employed on contract basis �to make � a further survey, and asked this suggestion. be placed upon the minutes. CITY�POUND - �iUMA:NE`SO.CIETY �"- �" � ` � Mr. John Olive'r of Cottonwood, representing the Humane Society spoke on their pro- pos.ed plan to lease land to further their efforts of building a proper,. well equipped - ariirnal-shelter witliin`the Ci�y of-"Reddi:ng, to serve�ali of Shasta Count.y. He said the Humane�Society was �origiiiated iri 1912�"by the father of Judge Ross and was re-, _ activated February of this year. The county, having no animal shelter at present, was willing to: coope�.ate .in supporting this project and by .state statute could con,- tribute as high as $500, 00 per month.in aid. He fur�the.r.stated the material .for, - this propos.e�d building'project would' be donated and much of tfie labor would be on . the volunteer bas-is. � � � � � Mayor Williams informed the council and the'Society sixteen,.letters of inquiry to cities had beeri mailed requesting information on.the,.subject,, an�d thatyaction would be �:.. .. . . . .. _ deferred until tke next regular council meeting . PROPOSED SUBDIVISION OF LAND - BENTQN AIR:PQR:T`AREA. - � Mayor Williams informed the council it was his opinion the Planning Comrnission had acted without proper,information-,being_ given; to_thexri regardirig' low cost housing and the proposed subdivision of land for this purpose, and requested tlie subj.ect be held over until the Planning Comrnission was given the proper information. As bid opening was scheduled for 8:3.0 P. T. .Hinman, resident of the Greeriwood Heights area, presented his views on�the pro.posed low_co�st housing project in. the B`enton.Airport areat_,The principle _, objections were three_ the provisio,n of lights, water, sidewalks, curb�s and gutters for the new subdivision, pointing;out the inadequacy of these featur'es _in the already - established Greenwood Heights subdivision, or any other subdivision:within the city limits. The lowering of pr:operty va:lues in the Greenwood Heights area -- and �the development .of a housing project would 'be indirectly detrimental to_the continued. development of the B�enton Airport, _ , _ Mr. Sig Kriegsman informed the council the Planning Commission had six reasons why a housing development should not b'e in this proposed area;. the land was too_ valuable for the. further developrnent of the airport, and it was his opinion the council should not sell this city-owned property. At the suggestion of Mr. Oxley a number of the residents of this section rose, stated their name and voiced their objection to the� proposed development of low cost housing in this. area. _ � . . � Councilman Anthony informerl the council he.thought the de_c,ision should be as to whether or not the land� should be sold, before�further �;orisideration of the housing problem.
