Tlie following letters were presented to the counci-1 by Mayqr 5inzons: KENNEDY AND :CALDWELL Court House Apri14, 1952 Honorable Pilbur Simons & City Council of Reddixrg Redding, California G.entlemen: The Recreation Committee unanimously passed a resolution at a special a meeting Monday, the 3lst day of March, 1952, recommending that the City Council a11ow the Campfire Girls the use .of the Lake Redding bathhouse for their organizational activities. This- resolution was passe'd after a lengthy discussion on the advisability qf the girls using the building. Members of the committee also_ attended a meet- ing with the Regional Campfire Representative and other Redding adult leaders of the Campfire group. At these meetings the following disadvantages to the location of the building were discussed: _ a. Proximity of a hobo.jungle to the headquarter s site. b. Danger of the nearby cold and fast moving Sacramento River. c. Isolated location of the site. d. D.anger to foot traffic on the steep grade and narrow bridge enroute to the site. e. Awkward location of the Park's public lavatories attached to the building. f. Nearby trailer cam. g. Volunteer leadership structure of the campfire program could fluctuate -in its sense of responsibility. h. Chance that the camfire program would lose cornmunity support because af its headquarters location. The mothers in charge .of the Campfire program s well as Mary Fiedler, the Regional Campfire Representative; appreciated these shortcomings but felt that a,ny location they might select would have some disadvantages; and inasmuch as the girls would never us.e the building unless there were supervisors present, they felt that the building would be desirable for their program. We feel the adults in charge of the Campfire Czirls have been fully advised concerning the building's location and that they appreciate the precautions which rnust b= e taken whenever youngsters are using the building. Therefore, the Re- creation Gommittee feels that the Campfire Girls should have ,the use of this building.if the City does not need it for other activities. yours very truly, /s/ Claude ,E. . March 31, 1952 ., File Reference 902 City of Redding Redding, Calif. Attention Mr. P. W. Storm, City M.nager Dear 1VIr. Storm: We hereby request a permit for temporary installation of a radio receivex at the Benton Airport, to operate on approximately 75 MC. There will be no interference with any facility of the airport. We have made an investigation and survey throughout the Redding area and this location seems to be one of the very few locations with promising results. We are in need of a location where our 75 IVIG control circuit will operate a transxnitter on Big Valley Mountain, east of McArthur, and the maxirnum power consumption of approxirnately 100 watts. It is with this in mind that we wish to locate our receiver at the Benton Airport office building. We have contacted Mrs. Hines relative to this installation and have her permission. However, she suggested the City should be the one to give the authorization. This receiver will be tied into the telephone, line. system and transmitted to our Cypress Avenue Station. There will be no noise or speaker tones other than an occasional checking of the receiver by the Radio Technician. The location in the building will be that designated by Mrs. Hines, and all work shall be satisfactory to her. ' = Again, we want to emphasize this is. only a temporary trial set-up, and three or four months should be sufficient to give us the necessary information. We would appreciate favorable action on this rnatter with information regarding any rental fee or other charges that may be incurred. Yur s very truly, /s/ J. W.
