Sutherland, Vice President and General Manager of the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, be read, in which it was stated the City "must accept or reject" within thirty days after:receipt of this notice. (March 18, 1955) the five year ,option on amend- ment dated Dec, 5, 1949 to electric power contract dated July 5, 1949, from and a�ter August 26, 1955 on the same terms, conditions and rates. '� �� Councilman Fleharty, chairman of the Electric Comxnittee, submitted the follaw- ing report and recommendation: "The foll�wing camprises the report and rec�mmendation �of the Electrical Committee �f the City of Redding regarding the purchase of p�wer for; the coming five year period, ,_ , � � Beginning in the month af September, 1954, the committee contacted the Sacramento office of the U, Se B. R. .to ascertain the a'vailability of p�ower to the city fr�om , Federal sources during,the coming.contract period.. Initially it seemed,p�wer would be available either from the unused 33, 000 kilowatts in the Nevada Contract ` or from additional power to be ,generated at Folsom .and Nimbus. Construction delay,s at the latter and continuous increments from present users have since erased this possibility. At a conference in the Sacramento office af the Bu`reau �f Reclamation, on March 10, 1955 with director Clyde Spencer, it devel�ped that it would be impossible to �btain the required`Federal power at this tirne regardless of the c�uncil�s preference in the matter.
