COMMUNICATIONS , Burney V�olunteer Fire Dept. letter of Appreciation A comrnunication dated F'ebruary 9th expressing thanks and appreciation for the lecture and demonstration Capt. White and Fire 1Vlarshal Wade presented ��� to the Burney V�olunteer Fire Department was submitted to council. , Request for Authorization Transfer of 1913 Bridge Bond ,Fund ,. 1VI�r�s. L�ouise Fancher, City Treasurer, requested council authorizati�on f�or � tlae trans�ferring �of the surplus of $834. 98 in the 1913--Bridge B�nds Fund,to /`'2 . The Vote; Unanim�ous Ayes. : Request for Cancellation of Taxes - State of Calif, City Attorney Cibula advised he had prepared a formal letter for filing with the City Clerk wherein was stated the recommendatifln of the City Asses_sar and the City Attorney on the request of Mr, J. W. Trask, District Engineer, Division of Highways, on the cancellation af a pflrti�on of the ,2nd installment �'/� 1954-55,taxes on a portion.of Lot 8, Bl�ck 7 Breslauer's Addition. . � Council were advised that the small strip o`f land inv�lved did n�ot darnage the value of the property but rather improved it, that the min�or improvements , � . � mentianed,by the State .con,sisted �of an old fence which was n�ot assessed, and - � - � _ _ , � as the 2nd installment taxes had been paid, and there had been no reducti�n in the assessed valuati�on, it was rec�ommended,that the request be denied. Fleharty � � Noes: Councilmen - None � � � - � Absent: Councilmen - Holyfield RE BENTON AIRPORT LEASE C;ouncilman�Sim�ns stated there was some queslti:fln as to whether the City �of Redding n�w had any Lease or Contract in �force with the Fi & H Flying.Service and to rectify this condition the following mfltion was made: IC� , MOTION: Ma�de by Councilman Simans that the H & H .Flying Service be tendered a contract for lease of the Benton Airport for a period of�liYr.�t'y�days under the same terms and conditions as tlie Lease between the City of Redding and H & H Flying Service dated April 1, 1.953, but without� any provisi�on such as�that appearing in Paragraph 21_ of said Lease, and that H & H Flying S.ervice be given until the re- gular meeting to be held February 21; 1955 at 8:00 o�clock Pa M. of said day t�o either accept or reject the thirty-day contract. Rental for said thirty day period to be $100� 00, Sec�onded by Councilman Smith, Mr. Glenn Newton, representing the H & H Flying Service and Mrs. Alma Hinds, stated that in his opinion there was nothing specific to work on, that Mrs, Hinds had a substantial investment at the airport and requested the lease continue as it is until a concrete�prog.ram was established by the council, or that his client be given ample opportunity ta liquidate her �tnvestment, otherwise.council would be faced with a lawsuit, Councilman Anthony stated in hi,s'opinion it was definitely unfair to the m�,yor of Redding to take• action unless a full council were present to vote on this c�ontroversial subject, and requested he be placed on record as opp�sing the leasing of the airport on. open bid, � � � Deputy Mayor Fleharty stated it was the recommendati�on of the Airport Commission that certain legal entanglements of the present lease be resolved; to then place the proposed new lease on open bid without favoritism to the present lessee, s� �9 Couneilman Smith stated he was in complete accord with the Airport C�mmission and fav.ared their reco�rimendations in full, Acting on the recomrriendat�iori of City Att�rney Cibula that it would be good legal practice to confer with. Mr, Newton and all parties concerned, the m�tion and the second were withdrawn by Councilmen Simons and Smitho � A meeting to be held within the next few days was schedul�d with Mrs, Hinds, Mr, Newton, City Manager .Stites, the Ci+y Attorney and eouncilmen to atte�de ,_C�ouncilman Simons submitted a report on Benton Airport, compiled by City .
