WH:EREAS, a general election was held on April 13, 1954, in tlievCity of

WHEREAS, the City Council has canvassec� tfie votes of`such election; and
WHEREAS, the number of votes cast in the City of Redding at such el'ection

. OATH OF OFFICE.
At this time Mayor Sill Anthony gave the Oath of Office to City Clerk Dorothy
Slood, after which, the City Clerk gave the Oath of Office to Herbert A, Hoiyfield,
�1�Tilber D, Simons and .George C. Fleharty, newly elected £ouncilmen.
Mayor Anthony thanked all councilmen for their fine coop:eration during his term
of office; Councilman Williams stated there had been many differences of opinion
- during his two terms of office on.the City Council, however "it had been a lot
of fun,� a 1ot of pleasure, and a lot of education" to serve.
The Mayor, and Gouncilman Simons, Councilman Smith, City Manager Stites
and Carl A. Williams congratulated the newly elected Gouncilman George Fleharty.
MOTION: Made by Councilman Fleharty, seconded by Councilman Simons that
� Herbert A. Holyfield be appointed Mayor of the Gity of Redding.
Voting was as follows:
Ayes: C,ouncilmen - Holyfield, Simons, Smith, Fleharty and Anthony
Noes: Councilm�en - None
Absent: Councilmen = None
Councilman Anthony congratulated Mayor Holyfield, and turned the gavel over
to him. Mayor Holyfield comrnended Bill Anthony for his successful year as
Mayor and stated "he had one regret that the house wasn't packed to applaud him
for his service to the City'','
Re Proposed Air Force Academy Site
The endorsernent of Camp Beale for the proposed sit'e of the Air Force Academy
was deferred until the next Couneil meeting, pending information from the local

Chamber of Commerce on their reactivation of a committee for the Reddirig area
as a proposed site.
There being na�further business, it was moved b.y Councilman Anthony, seconded
� by Councilman Srnith that the meetirig l�e adjourned:
