"conspicuous achievement of no traffic fatalz�ties" making this award possible. Mayor Anthony thanked Mr. Ross�for this presentation_.and high commendation to the Reddirig Police Department for their efficient service making this award ` possible was expressed by the councilmen. REQUEST PARKING SPACE - YELLOW TAXI CA.BS 1VIr, Charles�E. Bull, operator of the Yellow Taxi Cabs in Redding, called council attention to the. scarcity�of parking,areJa in the down-town section, and suggested as a .`slight alle"viation to this probl�em in a critical parking area, council consent that taxi cabs be perrnitted to park in .?.the red zone and adjacent to the fire hydrant at Yuba and C'alifornia 5treets and in the red zone at the Greyhound Sus Depot. He �urther stated ,that cabs were either attended at all times or the cab drivers would be in'the imrnediate vicinity, and that revenue, to the City would approximately be the same; he being relieved of a minor expense, �yet the City would derive re- venue from the additiorial parking meters. May.or Anthony referred Mr. Bull to the Parking Commission now in conference with the request their recomrnendation' on this situation (subject to the prohibitions of S.tate_law) be given to the council.� RE.QITEST RE W.ATER. CHARGES - Roy R. Roberts ` Mr. .R:oy R. R.ob.erts. of 1080 South 5treet, stated to the council that variance•request for a second dwellin.g on lot located 1080 South, street had been granted, and dwelling was now in pr.ocess of completion. He added there was 150 ft. frontage _on South St. , and two water rneters wer,e now on the property, servicing his residence and a neighborrs. In view of the existing service, Mr. Roberts requested clarification on the water conriection charges. City Manager Stites stated that on structures now existing there was not the $1. 50 per front foot service charge for water connection, but a riew .structur.e would be a new area.and tHe`charge would then be this amouiz�. This petition requested the property be opened as a public alley,as�it w�uld be a great benefit to the numerous families whose property abutts this alley. V J City Attorriey Cibula s.tated a petition had been circulated about ten years;ago on this same subject, and all but one abutting property owner had sigried at-that time. On those S.undays the Tigers play in Redding; the Cubs will-use Tiger Field Saturday nights; those Sundays tke Tigers are scheduled for games' out of town�, the 'Cubs will pla�y on Tiger Field. HEALTH'CODE City Attorney G.ibula reported he was. still working on a revision of the Health Code. - , PRO: IMPROVEMENT .AKAR.D AND CYPRE55._STS; _City Manager Stites reported he had received no word as yet from the State on the propos.ed opening of the:�dividing strip across Cypress Avenue at Akard Street, but that the State Division of��Fish and Game had expressed their willingness to contribute to the resurfacing of this location. SALE.OF BENT'ON POWER LINES City Manager Stites stated the application for sale of the Benton Power Lines had ' been approved by the Fublic Utilities Commission of the State of California and the sale of the lines would become effective June,29, 1953. PE�NSION PLAN City Manager Stites reported there was nothing new right now on the Employees� retirement plan, however, a report would be submitted in the near future by the Chairman of the Finance Committee.
