The meeting was called to order �Oy Mayor Fleharty and upon roll call the following Cfluncilmen were present: Fulkert�, Holyfield, Kelly, Simons and Fleharty. City Manager Cowden and City Attorney Cibula were also present. SUBSTANDARD BUILDINGS • A communication was read from the Shasta County C�ntractors Association commending the Cfluncil f�r the action they have taken -�a� S'r re condemnation of substandard buildings. The Association offered their assistance and cooperation. Mayor Fleharty commented that _ the City would keep in touch with the Associati�n and inform them of developments, CONFERENCE re Loc�l Gflvernment & Industrial Developement Councilmen were invited to attend the Statewide Conference on _`S'G/ Local Government and Industrial Development to be held in Berk�ley, August Z9th. • TAX RATE 1956-57 MOTION: Made by Councilman Simons, seconded by Councilman Kelly adopting Resolution #2089 and setting the Tax Rate for the fiscal year, 1956-57. , • Voting was as follaws: � ��Z Ayes: Councilmen - Fulkerth, Holyfield, Kelly, Simons & Fleharty Noes: Councilmen, - None Absent: Coun.dilmen - None Resolution No. Z089 on file in the City Clerk's Office • ENTERPRISE Po U, D, = Water Service Agreement City Manager Cowden was instructed to arrange for a luncheon meeting with the Board of Directors of the Enterprise P� U, D. �and c2 �' � the Council for Friday, August 31st, � SUNSET TERRACE S�TREE'3' IMPROVEMENTS Assistant City' Engineer pon Simpson reported �that he had received informal quotations from three� contractors for the Street Imprave- ments in Sunset Terrace. A combination of the l�flwest estixr3ates came to $61, 566. 60 and a combination of the highest •estimat'es came to $74, 298. 63. The Engineering Department esti�mate of August 20th was $70, 562. 28. � , �Z G�c� Mr. Simpson stated that any reduction other than in Item 2 which is for appearance flnly, would impair the qiaality of the Street. Tom Woods submitted an estimate prepared by Morgan Construction Co. Mr. Morgan proposed to install curbs andgutters to the existing 5treet Grades and apply the new Street Surface directly �to the _:existing surface. Cost for the proposed patching and resurfacing of the Streets wt�uld not exceed $21, 600. 00. The curbs and gutters as per the Engineer- �ing Department estimate would cost $26, 360. 00. A total figure nf � $47, g60. 00. This figure approximates the original "guesstimate" of two and flne half years agfl. He feels the City is committed and should proceed with the work on that basis. �..��� Traffic Sergeant George Vanderpool in receiving the award on behalf of the City, stated that it was the people of Redding who made the record possible. The next regular meeting of the City Council will be held Ttzesday, September 4th. There being no further business, it was moved by Councilman Halyfield, seconded by Councilman Fulkerth that the meeting be adjflurned. Vote: Unanimous ayes.
