Absent: Councilman Kelly, � City Manager Cowden, City Attorney Ness, City Engineer Ward and Traffic Sergeant George Vanderpool were also present. � � NOTICE OF AWARD Mr. Go �Co Stewart, Executive Vice President National �afety Council, /UO notified;Mayor Fleharty that the City of Redding had been awarded an "Outstandir�g Achievement Certificate" for school traffic safety education based on traffic inventory programe STREET RESURFACING . A comxnunication dated June 4th was sul�mitted to all cauncilmen 'ay City j��,. Engineer Ward requesting approval of the half-soling of streets ir� tize Kutras and Garden-Olivia Tracts, south of South Street, at an estimated figure of $10, 262. 00, Mr, Ward advised there were ample funds in the street maintenance budget for the year. 1958�-59 and as the streets were deteriorating it was an opportune x�� time to�pr'ogram the wo.rke Action deferred until the next regular meeting of the City Council. RESOLUTION - Convention Site � MOTIOIV: Made by Councilman Simons, seconded by Councilman Fulkerth that Resolution No. 2583 be adopted, a resolution of the City C,o.uncil of the City of Redcling requesting the officers of Department of C�.lifornia's Veterans of World War 1 of the U. S. A. to give consideration to the City ��Z of Redding as the site for the 1961 convention, Voting was as follows: Ayres: Councilmen - Fulkerth, Puryear, Simons and Fleharty Noes: Councilmen - None , Absent: Councilmen - Kelly Resolution No. 2583 on file in the office di the City Clerk. , PUB LIC HEARING Highland-Quirk Assessment District No. 1958-3 Filing of Assessment and Hearing Thereon Mayor Fleharty opened the public hearing on the Highland-Quirk Assess- ment District No. 1958-3, continued from the council meeting of June 1 st: ,S/;Z City Attorney Ness briefed the action taken on.June lst, when six protes.ts we're taken under advisement and advised three protests had been over- ruled, and three assessments eliminated from the Assessment District. It was therefore necessary to respread the assessment and it was now in order to confirm the arnended assessment, providing there were no further protests. Several residents of the area asked pertinent questions about the District, ' however no protests were filed. 3 42 MOTION: Made by Councilman Simons, seconded by Councilman Fulkerth that public hearing on the Highland-Quirk Assessment IDistrict No. 19�8-3 be closed. The Vote: Unanimous Ayes. MQT�ON: :Made by Councilman Simons, seconded by Councilman Fulke'rth that Resolution No. 2584 be adopted, a resolution confirming amended assessment made and filed by the Superintendent of Streets of the City of Redding in Assessment District No, 1958-3, pursuant : to direction of the City Council of the City of Redding, finding that the lots, pieces or parcels of land in the Assessme,nt District for " Assessment District No. 1958-3 are benefited in proportion to the amounts set forth in said amended assessment,and confirming said assessment. , Voting was as follows: Ayes: Councilmen - Fulkerth, Puryear, Simons and Fleharty Noe s: Councilmen - None Absent: Councilm:en - Kelly _ , _ .
