Mr. John Leininger, contractor living at 6301 Riverside Drive, advised he was planning to construct lapartments on the north end of Mary St�eet and had :made application for water service.,. only to find area is now serviced with a 3/4" water main that did not provide adequate year round. service to the present sub- scriber,s,, nor make it practical for him to hook on to the present line. /.� f . - , _ _ .. � Director of Public Works Marron recomznended that Council replace this line, in order that Mr, Leininger and others have.more adequate water serrvice. The program as conducted by L. G. Wade, Fire Marshal, and.Jack Penix, ��� Building Inspector, has during the past year and one half, resulted in ,the tearing down of one hundred thirty five structures thought to be unsafe with- out one condemnation suit. _ The Building Inspector was praised for "his outstanding job" by Mayor ��� Fleharty and at this tixne there was general discussion on the classification and salary schedule, with the City M�.nager advising he would submit recommend- i � ations within the next week or so. SWIM BOOS'TERS CLUB Mr, Alvin Cibula, speaking as a representative of the Swim Boosters Club and not in the capacity of City Attorney or attorney, spoke of the Swim Boosters Club and the various swim meets held in Santa Clara, San Francisco and Sacramento in which participants from Redding had placed. It was now de- � �� , sirous that a swim meet be held in Redding and the club was requesting,the following items from Council: 1. Lane Markers _ 2. Bleachers 3. , Shade Mr, Riley, swimming coach of Sh�sta Union High School,advised Red.ding hacl � a good and adequate pool, and it was hoped the Junior Olympics would be held in Redding. Merritt Nelson was directed to submit an estimate of cost for bleachers, shade and lane markers. AIRPORT DEALERS AGREEMENT MOTION: Made by Councilman Kelly, seconded by Councilman Fulkerth that Agency Agreement with the City of Redding and the'Standard Oil Company �,1� covering the handling of petroleum at the Benton Airport, and Agency Agree- 7 ment with the City of Redding and the Standard Oil Company, under terms of which Redding Air Service is authorized to order gasoline and to otherwis� act as the agent of the City with respect to the purchase and sale of gasbline ��'� at the Redding Municipal Airport, be approved, and the Mayor be empowered to sign on behalf of the City, The Vote: Unanimous Ayes, ' RE TRAILERS - Redding Municipal Airport ` City Manager Cowden advised that Mre Earl Martin, station agent for Southwest Airways; and Mrs. Hazel Tons, operator of the municipal airport restaurant �j� had expressed interest in parking trailers on the grounds at the airport, to be used as living quarters. A suggestion was m�de that trailers could be restricted to persons empToyed at the Redding Municipal Airport, and the City Manager was asked to investigate probable locations, and the possibilities of septic tanks, water service, etc. RE FOREST SERVIC�.;:LAND - City of Red.ding Mayor Fleharty reported the Forest Service has made a draft of a bill authoriz;-- ing the transfer of forest service land to the City of Redding in exchange for -�y�� pro�erty located at the R�edding Municipal Airport, and advised negotiations are procee�ing at a very good rate; ELECTRIC FUND Councilman Simons, Chairman of the Finance Committee, advised that Mr. S. V. Pfuntner, Director of Finance, in an investigation of cities having municipal utilities, had found that six out of eleven cities at the close of the fiscal year �y�Z- transferred the cash surplus balance to General Fund - and effecting a property tax rate adjustment accordingly. He further estimated there would be ari estimated available surplus in the Electric Fund of t$200, 000. 00 at the close of this fiscal year. It was recommended that $85, 000. 00 of this surplus be transferred for street improvement purposes, and the Director of Public Works was requested to � submit a "critical street list" and prepare maps so the program of street " improvement could go ahead, Mr, Marron estimated thi�s amount of money would cover about fifteen miles of streets and would take care of a good percentage of our deficiencies, that it would be the start of a continuing program that "will make a.terrific showing".
