Dr. George Martin, Vice Mayor of the City of Redding, called .the meeting to order with the following councilmen present: Chatfield, Moty and Martin. Absent: Councilman Kriegsman. Also present were City Manager Cowden, City Attorney Murphy, Purchasing Director Stewart, Fire Chief Grant, Assistant City Manager and Director of Finance Courtney and Director of Public Works Arness. Also present was Sherman Fulkerth, former Mayor of the City of Redding. OATH OF OFFICE - Councilman The Oath of Office was administered to Charles F. Denny, to fill the unexpired te rm of She rman W. Fulke rth. MAYOR - Appointment - -• - . City Manager Cowden read the following letter from Councilman S. A. Kriegsman, Jr. � April 22, 1963 Mr. Robert Cowden City Hall ' �j�� Redding, California Dear Bob: Plea�se read this at Council meeting April 23. I am terribly sorry to miss the meeting and say farewell to former Mayor Sherman Fulkerth and to welcome Councilman Denny. If I could be there I would be glad to nominate George Martin for Mayor. Sorry, but business calls me out of town. Very truly yours, /Sig S. A. Kriegsman, Jr. Councilman Chatfield nominated George A. Martin as Mayor of the City of Reddi'ng. MOTION: Made by Councilman Chatfield, seconded by Councilman Moty the nominations be closed. The Vote: Unanimous Ayes. MOTION: Made by Councilman Chatfield, seconded by Councilman Moty that George A. Martin be appointed Mayor. Voting was as' follows: Ayes: Councilrrien - Chatfield, Denny and Moty Noe s: Councilmen -�N one Absent: Councilmen - Kriegsman Abstain: Councilmen - Martin : Dr. Martin expressed his deep appreciation for the honor and privilege of serving as Mayor; he took the oath of office and received congratulations from those present. MAYOR PRO TEMPORE MOTION: Made by Councilman Moty, seconded by Councilman Chatfield that Sig Kriegsman Jr, be appointed Mayor Pro Tempore. The Vote: Unanimous Aye s. 295 Sherman Fulkerth congratulated Mayor Martin and Councilman Denny on their appoint-ments, and stasted in his opinion the City is being left in very capable hands. �� � He then pr�esented to Councilman �enny material he had accumulated while a member of the Forward Redding Committee and over the past seven years as councilman and mayor stating he would be pleased to go over this material at any time waith Mr. Denny in order to bring him up to date. � . � � _. Mayor Martin welcomed Councilman Denny to the team - men dedicated to the welfare of the City, and-that he �vas proud to be a member of this team. He urged Mr. Denny to freely eommunicate with councilmen and�Gity staff.
